  1. 1. So I am going with a new build. Time to retire my i7 2600k system. My first pair is i7 7700k w/z270 Gaming M7 Motherboard... My 2nd contender is i7 7800x w/x299 Gaming M7 Motherboard.

    • i7 7700k w/z270 M7
      4
    • i7 7800x w/x299 M7
      1

I am leaning towards the first because of the 4.2ghz, while the x series runs 3.5Ghz.

The 2nd paid has more cores, but to my understanding I won't utilize because I only use my PC for a few video games and internet browsing. Maybe watch HBO & Netflix from time to time.

What are your opinions?

7700k, 7800X is matched in some cases by CPUs like the Ryzen 5 1600 which are less than half the price in games.

idk

7700k is better value for gaming, X299 is a waste.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

So I was up for hours last night looking at the 1600. The 1600x seems like a good way to go. Definitely in the top to running replacing the 7800x... But here is where I am now hung up. The msi board with the 7700k https://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?CompareItemList=-1|13-130-969^13-130-969 seems to have some key factors that I want.

a) has 4x4 pin headers. I have 8 case fans

b) it has 3 pci express 3.0 slots

Where as the x370 to go with the 1600x https://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?CompareItemList=-1|13-119-004^13-119-004

a) 2 pci express 3.0 only

b) 1x4 pin header (unless I missed something)

The x370 has a lot more software but the pci e slots is a concern, and there just isn't a lot of boards that will fit the Ryzen. I really like MSI and they don't even seem to have a board that is better than the z270 that will fit Ryzen. Plus with saving the extra money going with AMD, I don't want to blow it on a mother board to fit am4 socket. What do you all think?

MSI AM4 motherboard have A LOT of problems. Would recommend anything else except generic and BIOSTAR
