PC shuts down randomly

Lately my computer has been acting weird, it shuts down at random with no blue screen, no warning. I thought it might have to do with my overclock (I was reaching 4.9 GHz with 1.385V but for everyday use i kept it at 4.5 GHz) but even after reverting back to stock it keeps crashing. It wasn't a heat relates issue as I have a Corsair H100I and during normal usage the CPU never even reached 70ºC.It could be my PSU but it's a 1year old Corsair G550M 550W PSU so i doubt that the system instability is to blame on the PSU. I suspect it might have to do with my motherboard (Asus Maximus VIII Ranger), it's not the first time I have had problems with an Asus motherboard, in fact this is my second one, my first MB died after 4 months. I have heard from other people that they also have had trouble with non ROG Asus motherboards that weren't manufacturing defects but "features". Do you think that it might be the same in my case?

System I5 6600K

8 GB of HyperX DDR4 memory

R9 380X (not OCed cause even a 20MHz offset crashes it)

Corsair G550M 550W PSU

OCZ 240GB SSD

WD 1TB HDD

I would absolutely think its your PSU. Remember that the closer you get to the max wattage, the more efficiency your going to lose. I would swap on the PSU to something a little higher like a 650 watt with a 80+ Bronze at least.

I would rather agree on what we share, than fight on what we don't. - Myself

Id definitely point to the PSU aswell, is your PSU fan dirty ? it could be overloaded based on the load (have you recently added anything to the load ?

it could also be a thermal issue within the PSU causing it to cut out maybe?

Try unplugging your peripherals one by one and replicating the issue. A friend had a similar problem with random shutdowns and it turned out the mouse was sending some kind of a signal to the motherboard and the pc was shuting itself down because of some error code. Really wierd but you could try it at least.

That does sound like a good idea, but the crashes are so random and I don't have a way to force them. That being said I don't have a lot of peripherals but it might be worth a shot.
