Internet keeps disconnecting randomly, why?

Hiho,

 

Internet on my PC was literally turning itself off for the past 2 days now. On random occasions. I was fed up so I restarted the router and problem was gone for few hours, and today about 20 minutes ago it appeared again. I was browsing a webpage with images, and it decided to turn itself off. I was downloading some of them. The internet just simply turns off, and shows available networks, so I reconnect and it takes it like 30-45 seconds to reconnect but it eventually does. Then it disconnects again, and I try to connect again etc.

 

This only happens on this machine. I had no anti-virus 'cause I formatted my and I was still installing stuff. This never happened to me before.

 

Any idea what it could be?

 

I've got Win 10 creators update, and when I was living at University with this exact PC, the internet never restarted itself. Even in this house for the past 4 weeks (since I moved back in) it never disconnected. It started 2 days ago. I had Creators Update for about 3 weeks now.

Are you using wifi by chance?  Sounds like your Wifi or NIC card is going bad ( how ever you're connected).  If you want a fairly inexpensive test,  go to walmart or bestbuy,  buy some 20 dollar USB Wifi Dongle, and see if that fixes the issue.  Should only apply if the device is the ONLY one having the issue.

 

Be 100% sure by grabbing your phone the exact moment and browsing a website while the PC Is down.

Yea, apparently so. Dude in the other room was playing Destiny on PS4 online and it did not disconnect whereas my PC disconnected and connected again.

It shouldn't. It's 1 month old WiFi card. I bought it brand-new.

I have a WiFi dongle and it's good idea. I'll try it out if this keeps on happening. It's weird 'cause it was fine since I bought it.

As much as you would like to believe this couldn't be a bad card sadly it could, you can try changing your WIFI Channel on your router or repositioning the router to see if the signals bad. If that doesn't work RMA it get a new one

Either that or if your PC has a Ethernet port,  move your comp near the router for a day and plug direct.  If its still having the same issue on a different interface,  its not the wifi card.

 

always approach troubleshooting by process of elimination.

It disconnected on me yesterday few times until I restarted the router and today it only disconnected twice or thrice. If it happens again, I'll try the cable. Thanks for help.

Could be indeed. I'll test the connection with a cable when it disconnects again. Thanks.

just another thought, someone in your buildings not killing your connection with bit torrent by chance? (Good old NAT Crash)

I updated the drivers to it via device manager yesterday, and I tried it for fun to see if it would update today again and it's updating! It's ultra weird. Maybe this will fix it?

Im guessing you mean USB? Because if thats the case, then that could be the problem. USB networking solutions suck ass. I highly suggest PCI express when using WiFI. The newer AC WiFi standards Chipset gets warm, and these USB devices are not cooled properly and could over heat. 

 

Ethernet is king, Next best is Moca, then Power Line. The last is WiFI.

No I have ASUS CROSSHAIR VI Hero, and it the early model with no WiFi in it, so I had to buy my own laptop-like network card and I realised that's the problem.... The cables / antennas are not fully screwed in and I literally have to pull motherboard out to make sure antenna cables are not twisted. FML.

Never mind, after screwing it in it still seems weird.... I'm tempted to format my PC again. Might be a driver issue or something.
