AM4 CPU Cooler

Inversion

I need help. In a recent post when I was asking about Ryzen 5 RAM speed, some other users suggested not getting the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. The most common suggestion was the Cryorig H7 but I've had to rule that out since it's either or stocked or way too expensive in the UK.

Since then I've looked at a few more coolers and I'm not sure what to choose. Coolers need to be either AM4 compatible out of the box or have an upgrade kit available.

Coolers I'm currently looking at are the:

  • Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
  • Cooler Master MasterAir Pro 3
  • Cooler Master MasterAir Pro 4
  • Arctic Freezer 13 CO

Max Budget is around the £40 of the MasterAir Pro 4.

Any other Air cooler suggestions welcome

Stock cooler that comes with it is excellent, no need to waste money on a third party cooler.

Stock cooler, or if you don't like it for whatever reason a Cryorig M9a + AM4 upgrade kit. It's a great budget cooler - smaller, better performance, better looks, and cheaper than a 212 Evo and close to the performance of an H7 for a lot less. Mini review of the Intel version, the M9i, in my sig (it's green)

I know that the stock cooler is good - for a stock cooler. The bottom line is I don't want another AMD Furnace/Jet Engine under my desk and 90 degrees when overclocked is not on.

Most people agree the 212 is the best budget cooler and what I'm asking is are they wrong? I don't mind the look and I've had no issue with my CM Hyper 103.

The stock isn't a jet engine and isn't loud. You can even overclock it a bit. I overclocked my 1700 on stock cooler to 3.5, so the 1600 would be evenbetter since it's the same cooler. I don't think your understanding that it's a good cooler. Not a good stock cooler

Yeah @Abyss Gaming is right, don't think of it any the crap Intel shoved on us.

All 3 R5 1600 builds I've done use the stock cooling and all three of them are overclocked to 3.8Ghz and running daily and we can't hear a thing out of them.

Its good enough that don't bother with any mid/entry level cooler, rather save up and get a proper cooling solution if you want but the stock is more than good enough

Okay I'll agree it's not too loud but the high temps are not what I want. Look at this video from Hardware Unboxed. They overclocked the 1600 to 4GHz and was hitting almost 90 degrees on the Spire. I don't want to go that high on my CPU since this needs to last 5 years at least.

Why would I not? I'm OCing to get the best out of my CPU and if it'll go to 4GHz then I'll put it there as long as it's stable.

lol, you forgetting on thing, It's not your choice if your CPU is going to hit 4Ghz. lots of people are capping out at 3.8 some even at 3.6.

and if you want to go to 4Ghz the 212 is goign to perform pretty much the same as the Stock cooler, Thats what we saying is the Stock cooler is on par with all those entry/Mid level coolers.

if you want 4Ghz get a AIO or high end Air cooler not a 212 so the original point still stands you'll be wasting your money on a 212 or cheap air cooler.

I realise it might not get that high but if you actually look at the graphs in the video. The 212 has the OC'ed 1600 sitting over 20 degrees cooler under load. Personally, I'm way more comfortable with that temperature than almost 90 degrees which is only 5 degrees under rated maximum.

I got a Hyper 212 EVO but i went for a Coolermaster Liquid Master 240, not sure if 40 pounds is 75 euros.
Further more adding a 2nd fan on a 212 EVO when overclocking is wise, high SP for push and a high CFM for pull.

Is there another fan bracket for attaching a second fan?

I'd definitely use the stock cooler and you can get some good overclocks on that too with good temps.

If you want a 3rd party cooler heres a good one under £40 : https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/xGqbt6/deepcool-cpu-cooler-maelstrom120k or https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/DpH48d/deepcool-cpu-cooler-maelstrom120t

I'm not personally comfortable with near 90 degrees on my CPU so I will most likely get an aftermarket one but it will be air since I don't want to use water cooling.

Yes you get the parts with any CM fan I believe but I can confirm it is with the 212 EVO any 4 pin PWM fan will work just make sure you have the connectors or an splitter,

Other than appearance, do you know the difference between the Hyper 212 EVO and the Hyper 212X? I prefer the look of the fan on the X and I've heard it's better. Know anything about that?

So it comes down what you want to pay for a CPU cooler.

M9i (same as M9a except for mounting hardware) beat the H212 in most tests by 1-2*C BUT it is cheaper (under 20 pounds) and also QUIETER as you can see on the next page of the review. It's also smaller and better looking without any visible copper-colored parts and has a fucking 6 year warranty.

M9i (same as M9a except for mounting hardware) beat the H212 in most tests by 1-2*C BUT it is cheaper (under 20 pounds) and also QUIETER as you can see on the next page of the review. It's also smaller and better looking without any visible copper-colored parts and has a fucking 6 year arranty.

Where are you seeing under 20 pounds? I can't get it under 24
