Hi guys,

my friend has a decent build for one gamer but I want to know can he run "2 pc's from 1". He has brother who like to play so he saw linus video and he asked me if it is possible with it's pc.

His specs are i5 6600k, 8gb and Gainward 1060 3GB. Is it possible?

Tnx.

I would say no, considering he only has a quad core CPU and a single 1060. He'd need a lot more horsepower to run games at a decent quality and fps on two VMs

No you would at least need 16gb of ram, i7 or Ryzen 5/7, GTX1080 or better.

PC: Case: Cooler Master CM690 II - PSU: Cooler Master G650M - RAM: Transcend 4x 8Gb DDR3 1333Mhz - MoBo: Gigabyte Z87x-D3H - CPU: i5 4670K @ 4.5Ghz - GPU: MSI GTX1060 ARMOR OC - Hard disks: 4x 500Gb Seagate enterprise in RAID 0 - SSD: Crucial M4 128Gb

He could theoretically do it but it would mean a pretty shit gaming experience for both parts, two cores and either a crappy iGPU or a 1060 that would be badly bottlenecked.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

He really doesn't need a 1080, another 1060 is fine for that one but yes he should get atleast a 8 thread CPU

1080 would be cheaper though ;)

You can't split a GPU like that man, that's not how it works. And how would it be cheaper to buy a $500 GPU then a $200 one?

You actually can. VMWare can do it.

A GTX1060 is also 330 not 200.

Gotta have a gpu per VM if he used unraid. Cant just "share" the 1080

EDIT: Forgot about VMWare lol

Unraid is not the only virtualization software ;)

I would question the performance of a split 1080 versus a dedicated 1060 6GB card per VM though...

I have never seen this done and it's a 3gb, they are quite a bit cheaper, at least where I live. He might as well get a 1050TI though they do just fine in most games

3Gb is a waste of money though. The memory will almost always be your bottleneck.

Depends on where you look :P

Edit:

But back on topic, they would still need a more powerful CPU and some extra RAM at least to make it worth while.

He already has one and it won't be at 1080p.

Yeah, I just checked, for the 6GB it's only 269$, in this case, it becomes more worth while to get two 1060s over a split 1080. Not only is it harder but less effective tbh

But he already has a 3gb so ofc it will. There is no need to buy two GPUs

Probably the cheapest minimum you want to go, and even then I would want 32GB of ram to split 16GB each, that HDD can also be split to make two 1TB drives, one for each system.

Better get the Toshiba p300 3 tb HDD for some more and get 1.5 each
