Hello. I have an Asus A55V Laptop ( i5, geforce 630m, 6gb ram )

it overheats when i  play video games, i  play everything on  very low graphics and it still manages to shut down.

I believe its overheating, because it is very hot when it does.

Is getting a laptop cooler gonna fix the problem?

I noticed almost all coolers are pads with fans, but on  my laptop most of the heat comes out from the left side.

I really want to fix this problem.

Good idea to monitor temperatures, especially when playing games on a laptop that doesn't have purpose designed cooling for gaming. I assume the laptop is on a hard surface?

Hey,

Generally, laptops are notorious for being very hot. desk coolers where you sit the laptop on top of do help a little. Laptops intake air from the bottom and exhaust from the back or the side. Try to make sure you're using the laptop on a well ventilated, flat surface.

Short answer would be... Yes, a laptop cooler will help a little, but I wouldn't expect massive improvement. I do, however, Imagine that it will at least stop it from shutting down.

I just tore down this laptop to dust the heatsink and fan and put new (and better) thermal paste on it. Temps with down about 30-40C. If you're comfortable doing that then it's very worth it. Just make sure you keep track of everything, are nimble, and careful.

i would just clean it with some compressed air to the fan and the heatsink(visible on the left side exhaust). dont forget to hold the fan in place with a paper clip or a toothpick or some thing. other wise you might break it.

if not you can take apart the whole laptop and then clean it. this is a much better option if you know how to do it. (might be able to find a tare down guide on the internet)
