using slightly old laptop for collage

Disable the GPUs unless you need them for something and look for replacement batteries that could be higher capacity 

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Drop screen brightness to 50%, turn off keyboard back light, kill any background process you don't need

Does the laptop have a removable battery?  It's often possible to get extra large after market batteries for laptops, assuming their battery is removable (Like, removable without dissembling it.)  If you know the exact model, searching up after market batteries will be easy.

 

Frankly, you should consider a new battery, standard or oversized, since being a i7 3630qm, it's likely that battery is 4-5 years old and it's pretty worn down and doesn't have the capacity it did when it was new.

that laptop should do fine, get a new battery and a fresh copy of windows, an SSD and RAM will also help out a lot, worst case scenario bring a charger to class.
