Windows Purchase Dilemma

So basically I'm tied up right now.

 

I want to buy windows legitimately, but at the same time I'm earning well over $2000 to invest in a PC, and don't want to drop another $120 for 10 Pro.

 

I heard about a Reddit page, and this site called Kinguin, which I think are sketchy, and I've also heard that you can obtain windows for like $20 if you are a student? Is this true?

 

What do you guys think I should do?

Look into the student discount first, if that's an option you might be able to get it for much cheaper or even free.

Kinguin is grey, but it works. If you are a student, you can get codes for free with a microsoft product

Well it is a grey market so it's treading the fine line between legitimate and illegitimate. I purchased my copy of windows off there and it works perfectly fine however your mileage may vary. Pauls hardware recommended it should be fine.

I was thinking about buying 8.1 Pro and using the accessibility upgrade (yes I know I'm bad) to get to 10 for even cheaper.

I've seen channels refuse to work with kinguin and g2a on principle and due to how shady they both are.

Any method to activate Windows for free is illegal, Windows is not a free product and recommending any such method is against the Community Standards. This does not include student copies of Windows through sources like Microsoft Imagine.

I'd say if you can afford to put over $700 to hardware of which you will replace parts in 3 years anyway, you can afford to say full price for OS which will be yours for next 8-10 years (until support ends).

I learned it's for college students, I'm not in college so that can't happen.

Yeah, I may end up just buying a USB from Microsoft, unsure yet, but definitely won't be trying to do it for free lol
