I have built a computer with $50

windaway

List:Q8300(@450*7.5)+EP45-DS3L+2G DDR2 800*2+GTS450+LMT-32M3M+ WD 160G*2+VP450+S90D.

I used LMT-32M3M to cache HDD. The system works fine.

A build like that would've cost closer to $100 over here q.q

Word of advice: if you can, I'd turn the CPU fans so they're blowing out the back.  Otherwise, any heat generated by your CPU is being blown directly into your PSU, which over time will reduce the lifespan of it.

Thx, but the heatsink on northbridge hinder me from turning the cpu fans. Maybe I can cut the heatsink :)

That being said, you could certainly do worse. Putting together a build for $50 without using a scrap yard as your source like I do is quite impressive.

Anyone who has been on the forum long enough knows I am not lying when I make these prices and yes, I really do get this stuff for that cheap.

Does any of this stuff ever work?

I grade this build as :

Meh.

I could certainly do better,

Z68 motherboard for $3 ($3 a pound, one motherboard per pound)

I5 2400 for 25 cents ($5 a pound, 20 CPUs per pound)

1TB HDD for 50 cents (50 cents a pound, one HDD per pound)

128GB SSD for 25 cents (50 cents a pound, two SSDs per pound)

8GB DDR3 for $5 ($15 a pound, 12 sticks per pound)

GTX 770 for $5 ($5 a pound, one GPU per pound)

500w power supply for $1 (50 cents a pound, one power supply per two pounds)

Free case (5 cents a pound, comes from shred pile, my supplier let's me have these)

Total: $13

The used electronic products were sold on weight.(about $1000 per ton) But the dealers do not always get pc conponents, sometimes router, server ...

80-90% of it still works. Just ask @iamdarkyoshi, I recently sent him an asus Z68 board, a ton of RAM and an HDD and all of it worked. He had to do some fixing on the Z68 board but after that it worked totally okay.

It is surprising how durable computer hardware is. I have seen motherboards, RAM, power supplies and CPUs thrown across almost 100ft right into a bin where it comes crashing into a wall and down into a container full of hundreds of pounds of other motherboards. I go into the bins, dig the stuff up and as long as none of the pins are bent and there aren't too many caps missing, it still works.

I have made literally thousands of dollars going to scrap yards, digging stuff worth hundreds of dollars out of their pile and reselling it. One time I found 20 (yes 20) Intel i7-2600 CPUs and I got them for $5, because the scrap yard I goes to sells everything to me by weight. I don't give a rats ass what I buy, they only care about the gold content,

If you find a 3770k, gimme a shout ;)

(Legit, I will buy it and pay shipping)

I got this system for the price of a bubble tea and a couple of favors.

GA-MA78GM-US2H

Phenom II X2 550

4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2

XFX Radeon HD 4870 1GB

The 250GB WD HDD and BenQ DVD drive are both salvage units from my spare parts bin, the case (LEPA LPC306) was bought new on sale from NCIX for 15 bucks. PSU is a Thermaltake TR2 500W that I bought for around 20 bucks from NCIX. Swapped out the flimsy stock cooler that came with 550 with the beefier heat pipe cooler from my 1100T. All in all I've invested only 35 bucks on this machine.

The system currently runs as a dual boot of Windows 10 and OSX Yosemite. The Windows 10 license I got from Microsoft Dreamspark so I didn't even have to pay for that.
