hi,

i am starting to dislike all Youtube Tech Reviewers because they have lost sight of one thing Cost in how they frame what the Hardware is designed for.

What i mean is a Youtuber Classifying a Treadripper as a enthusiast level product.

i would say all in all using the AMD Product stack as a example but could easily be applied to other lines of products that:

AMD Epic- Servers/Datacenters

AMD Threadripper - Workstations or low end servers (branch or small office server)

AMD Ryzen R 7 -enthusiast class or highend gamer

AMD Ryzen R 5 Medium or highend mainstream processor

AMD Ryzen R 3 Budget Computer.

AMD Ryzen Pro Office Computers but R 3 or R 5 can do that same job if you don't need the added options.

what are your thoughts.

I wouldn't class R7 as enthusiast. It's high end consumer, just like Intel's LGA1151 i7s. When you start moving into the 2011-3 and new i9s, they line up more with Threadripper for the enthusiast market along with workstations.

en·thu·si·ast
inˈTH(y)o͞ozēˌast,enˈTH(y)o͞ozēˌast/
noun
noun: enthusiast; plural noun: enthusiasts
  1. a person who is highly interested in a particular activity or subject.
    "a sports car enthusiast"
synonyms: fan, devotee, aficionado, lover, admirer, follower; More
    expert, connoisseur, authority, pundit;
    informalbuff, bum, freak, fanatic, nut, fiend, addict, maniac;
    geek, eager beaver
    "a railroad enthusiast"
    • archaicderogatory
a person of intense and visionary Christian views.
Origin
early 17th century (denoting a person believing that he or she is divinely inspired): from French enthousiaste or ecclesiastical Latin enthusiastes ‘member of a heretical sect,’ from Greek enthousiastēs ‘person inspired by a god,’ from the adjective enthous (see enthusiasm).

so because i can't pay for a Theadripper i am not lover of the Technology, i feel what drives the technology is the people buying the Ryzen 7,5 and 3 that is where the lovers of the hardware live... the Threadrippers people are the Problem salvers of the world (the science teams seeking the cure, looking for the mathematical answer.

Serious question: Why does anyone care?

AMD calls Threadripper their enthusiast part, but that does not change how it performs and costs. Those two things are what you should care about.

A lot of this probably is better to be looked at based on Intel/AMD/etc... marketing teams.  Of course concerning computers, maybe a better way for you to look at how to classify a system isn't just based on the CPU, but also to look at the motherboards chipset.  That would be a better/more determining factor of how much capability you can pull out of the system.

Ignore blanket labels and deal with the convoluted system of whatever the heck someone wants to say only applies to them.

MaximumPC used to have these $800 "budget" builds. Everyone called them out on that not being a "budget" ... budget build. They responded with "Everyone has a different meaning for a 'budget build'" and I really couldn't fault them on that. It's best to just read between the lines (in the example, that it's an $800 build and nothing more) and use that to determine whatever the heck you want.

Can we just do away with calling cheap hardware 'budget builds?' Please?

My 5930K/GTX1080/RX470 build was a budget build. I had a budget, those parts fit it.

Honestly for actual workstation work an Epyc cpu may be more suited, although the line is very thin in AMD's case. Besides, the fact that they're good for workstations doesn't mean they don't appeal the enthusiast market, right? Not that it matters too much what you call them... the product doesn't change and neither does the audience.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Because "budget" means "inexpensive".

We should call them cheap/low end/entry level builds, that would be much clearer.

Compare my build to a 7980XE/dual Quadro P6000. Suddenly, my build is inexpensive.

My vote goes towards cheap, implies a certain feel of inferior hardware.

If we're going to talk relative, your build is cheap compared to a fully decked out Mac Pro.

If this is a semantics argument, we're going to go no where.

Real talk, it's cheap relative to just one of those gfx cards.

No, I try to only argue semantics with MageTank.
