i7-7740x vs i7-7700k

Hey guys. I'm building a streaming PC. I have decided on either purchasing the 7740x or the 7700k. I know, it seems like since the performance is close I should just go with the cheaper option, BUT there actually is a pro in selecting the 7740x. It uses lga2066 socket, meaning if I used an x299 mobo it might last me longer, the thing is, x299 mobo's are NOT CHEAP. I know for sure 2066 will last longer than 1151. What do you guys think? (pls recommend xd)

buy ryzen 1700 for streaming, extra cores helps for encoding while streaming, and buying the 7740x on x299 is a joke (its literally a 7700k slapped onto a x299 without any of the x299 benefits)

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

With the games that I want to play, the ryzen chips are not what I want.

Most of the benchmarks that I watched with the Ryzen Cpu's aren't great compared the the i7 processors, but most of the decent benchmarks were recorded just a week or so after the release of the RyZen cpu's.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking about RyZen but I did research, I knew that the updates would help, but I couldn't find more recent benchmarks. I've mad emy decision now. Thanks

bios updates, and high speed ram makes the difference

trust me, streaming with a quad core will make your FPS drop much more than streaming with a slightly lower IPC but 2x the core CPU

Actually, what ryzen 7 cpu would you recommend, 1700 1700x or 1800x

a ryzen 1700, or 1700x if you want to have a higher binned chip for a better chance of higher OC.

1700 can overclock just like the 1700x and 1800x, it only comes factory overclocked by a bit

Ok. Is the wraith spire cooler good enough for overclocking or should I get an aftermarket one?

It's fine for a decent OC, maybe up to 3.7, but not up to the 3.9 or 4Ghz limit.

Unless you want extra performance really badly, then just use the stock cooler.

1700 period.

Streaming is better with ryzen 7 since it has 8 cores. The only thing 7700k/7740x better is at pure gaming.

the included one in the 1700 iirc is around a 212 evo, should do you good for 3.7-3.8ghz

ryzen at the moment doesn't like overclocking to 4ghz+ on 99% of the chips or something

1700x and 1800x don't come with a cooler.

since I can spend more money on an aio (or something else) because I don't need some super expensive motherboard for x370, I'd like to overclock as much as possible. If I got the celsius s24 (sorry for misspelling) do you think I could pass 4 ghz?

no

its like getting 5.2ghz on a 7700k, if you do you should go out and buy a lottery ticket lol (these are like march/april overclocking results from my head, idk if its gotten better)
