Sure I'm a pretty handy overclocker, but at what point would you draw the line for a 24/7 overclock. Mine is what most people draw the line at for benching, 1.44v is my usual daily, however as I bench this CPU at 5.3GHz 1.472v with cinebench load temps of just 64°V for the cores, I'm temped to go for 5.4GHz. My real question, has anyone here degraded or killed an i7 7700K and if so, at what voltages and clocks?|

*edit* Cinebench load voltages are 1.488v thanks to LLC

I would say don't go over 1.35 volts.

blah, 1.35 is only 5.1GHz, that's pants, I should have also added this isn't for a daily just benching for HWBot.

If you are trying to acheve the best overclock possoble on water then thats fine, but for full 24/7 use, its possoble that it could become unstable after 4 years or so of use.

I think intel say 1.5 volts is the max so as long as it's on or below that and u can cool it enough u could try for 5.4ghz just don't be too surprised if u fry it at over 1.5 volts.

I did run an i5 6400 at 4.7GHz for a month on 1.52v and a H55, it was fun!

That's exactly what I'm after, however I think I'll wait until this chip has been replaced to really push it, but I almost got a complete cinebench run at 5.4GHz, just not quite, so I don't want to push it now, even though temps never hit 70°C on 1.49v

Then I would say max safe temp 1.45-1.47 before you enter "on the edge of frying" territory.

Getting there, sadly it wouldn't pass cinebench on 5.4 GHz, but given 5.2 gave 1143, and 5.3 gave 1160, I'd say 5.4 would have given about 1180

Have you run single core?  Interested to see how it compares to the single of my 7820x @ 5.1GHz.

Temperatures are not the only thing you should worry, frankly I suppose keep as it is would be fine as it'll last long enough until someone like you replace it for a 10nm processor or something any ways... but you're past the limit of safety already (great silicon though)... the way I see it here it only depends whether you can afford losing it to be honest, if you can lol don't even bother go play with it.

That's true, but voltage only degrades a CPU, it's the amps that release the magic smoke, and once the temps are lowish (60°C in this case) then the amps shouldn't hit the point that it causes the temps to controllable rise, amps rise in turn and kill the chip. However I manged while redoing the 5.2GHz OC to get load voltages down to 1.39v, which isn't bad.

Yes, Intel wasn't lying about the tiny increase in IPC for rending like this on Skylake X, although it should be noted Cinebench does not benefit too much from faster cache, mine is only at 4.6GHz as it's easier to break and doesn't make the CPU all that much faster. There is also less of it, Cinebench can be a little faster with more cache.

You'll be fine at 1.44v for daily use.  I run my 7700k at 5.3 GHz with 1.44v daily and have done so since it first released.

Also, extra voltage for benchmarking sessions are fine.  I've gone up to 1.6v (just over 5.6 GHz) on my 7700k with no issues.  Not a regular thing, but I wasn't worried about it either.

Anyways, here's a run at 1.5v at 5.55 GHz.  :D

Not bad hehe. I think there is something in my chip holding it back though, I the system agent is pretty weak shit, upping that makes the overclocks much more stable, as is expected from hyperthreading though.

I'm the luckiest guy when it comes to finding good chips.

Just kidding.  I bin through a lot of chips to end up with the ones I keep.  :D

When you get that thing running exactly how you want, post your results for submission over on the statistics thread on OCN.  Good luck man.

I have been able to get the 24/7 OC down a good bit over what it was by increasing system agent voltage, so the chip clearly isn't hurt by the previous experience, I might try for 5.4 and then 5.5 after knocking back a few whiskeys lol. I got this chip from Scan.co.uk, so it's lucky on my first try, I wouldn't waste the money to buy loads of them to look for a good one unless I was sponsored and either asked to sort them or just given one for LN2 overclocks, however when I move to Zen+ (AM4+ Because hello AMD, my old friend, I remember that killer 1.1GHz Duron 700 I had) I might give this chip a viking death on LN2.

Nice.  Whiskey always helps to properly motivate the silicon into complying with your demands!!

I don't waste money binning either.  I do it the right way.  xD

Let us know when you decide to give that chip its final pass.  Good luck.
