They can be bought with 4GB of VRAM so, duh ?
If you were asking about is it necessary, I say it depends on game and settings.

Yeah some games will use more than 3 GB of vram even at 1080p depending on quality settings

sure one may want to trade quality for fps therefore end up with less vram usage but you have the choice at least.
