Ryzen 1700, i7 7700, or wait for i7 8700

Hey. I was looking at CPU's for my new computer I wanted to build. I am stuck between the decision of the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 or the i7 7700. I could also wait for the 8700, but I already ruled that out. I mostly play minecraft while recording and video editing (Most likely 1080p video rendering.) and planning to play Halo games in the future. I was also going to get a Intel Optane module for it. But also I could just get an M.2 NVmE SSD on AMD side.

Im assuming your a kid based off your name. 

 

#1 Do not get an NVME drive you will not reap the benefits of it with how much more it costs. 

 

#2 do not waste money on Intel optane, its a shit thing for what it does, better just to put on an SSD and go.

 

#3 go with the 1700 if you plan on editing much, although idk if your going to try to overclock or if your kind of scared too.

not worth it for your use case. you could pay half OR double your capacity for the same price as an NVMe drive and you will see ZERO change in performance.

minecraft still likes IPC a lot I think, well at least on the java version. my 3770k dies in infinity evolved (2 chunks in my base, 23 fps or so, fucking microblocks and machines)

 

1700 would be MUCH better in render times however.

That would be most useless thing you could do, SSD renders Optane completely worthless.

 

Get a normal SATA 3 SSD as for your user case NVMe would be completely pointless as well.

 

Personally I think a h110m + i7 7700 + stock cooler or Ryzen 7 1700 + b350 + stock cooler would fit your user case the same way so whatever is cheaper or whatever brand you favour would work.

Well. I was planning to OC. Just with the stock cooler though.

If you want to OC then you have to go Ryzen as OC'ing Intel mainstream CPUs is over-priced and pointless.

considering he won't get a stock cooler with an unlocked i7 anyway, there's a lot of credence to be paid here. A decent cooler, at least one that can tame down a stock 7700k, isn't going to be exactly CHEAP, and he certainly won't get the multi-task / rendering performance that the R7 1700 offers at stock speeds which DOES come with a (very good) stock cooler.

he's  throwing 256GB out the window with the WD Black. An MX300 525GB is the same price and he won't notice the difference.

Heheh myself I would particularly throw SanDisk SSD 480gb because I'm all for SATA3 and that has great price per gb, I didn't mention any thing because SSDs feel so much of a personal thing

Don't get Intel optane. And don't get a locked i7. Get the unlocked one even if you don't want to overclock it. It comes at way higher speeds out of the box. But overall I would get the R7 1700.

Do you really need 32GB of RAM and a Blu Ray drive?

There are 2 things I would change if I were you. I consider a 2TB HDD since they aren't expensive and the extra space could came in handy for all your recorded videos. And I would get a bigger monitor. 21,5 inches for video editing seems just to small in my opinion. Get at least a 24 inch monitor.

If you could wait for coffee lake you would get a better deal even if you stick with ryzen as i expect price drops to happen. Would have to hold it out for 6 more months though. But if you really want to get it over with ryzen 7 is the better choice and the better choice in terms of platform support as AM4 is supported to 2020 with even Ryzen 2.0 and Ryzen 3.0 coming to it.

I seen you post things like this before why on earth would one get a 7700 if its not overclockable isn't that the whole point of that CPU getting it for gaming? I mean at 3.6Ghz its 15% better IPC isn't really that impressive since its just a 4 core vs a 8 core on Amd.
