Any phone will last you that long. There isn't anything about the top tier phones that'll last any longer than the lower ones, apps don't really increase the strain on the components within. It's mostly efficiency improvements.

Ah, I wouldn't really consider that a "feature" since spending a few dollars on an app can often net you better results.

I have an s8 but there are a couple things that annoy me, the bixby button. I have it disabled because it was a pain hitting it by accident but now I have an even more useless button that does literally nothing. The other thing is video playback, because of the screen ratio if you dont expand the video (cutting off a bit at the top and bottom) you only have 5.1" of usable screen for video. They might sound nitpicky but they have to be because its such a great phone (surprised wireless charging hasn't been mentioned yet).

I guess I can actually be of some help here as I just purchased an S8 two days ago and came from the OnePlus 3T (not the 5 but still similar in most aspects). 

 

In comparison thus far I can say this: 

 

-Screen hands down destroys the OnePlus and I'm sure the same applies to the 5. 

-The OnePlus feels a lot more snappy and quick than the S8.

-The Fingerprint scanner is MUCH better placed and quicker on the OnePlus.

-The S8 is much more comfortable to hold in one hand with its slimmer profile.

-The Cameras are night and day, not so much night and day with the OnePlus 5 but still better as can be seen in many comparisons online. 

-OxygenOS is far superior than Touchwiz. 

-Speakers are pretty much even on both. 

-Call quality is also even on both.

-Dual Sim on the OnePlus vs SD card slot on the S8 (preferences)

-Although battery is larger on the OnePlus the S8 is better optimized in this department getting 6 hours of Screen on time VS 3 hours I was getting on the OnePlus. (Identical apps installed on both).

-OnePlus gets quicker software updates than Samsung. The 3T running 7.1.1 while the S8 is still on just 7.0

-Water/Dust resistant is lacking on the OP

-No Wireless Charging if you care about that on the OP

I considered buying an S8 last week, ended up getting an S7 instead. 

 

- I have no need for the huge screen and don't like the styling or the aspect ratio. 

- The S7 is more than good enough really.

- Both have that horrible Samsung UI, but the S7 does have an advantage right now because you can put Lineage OS on it (I did just that on the first day of owning mine).  No idea when/if that's going to be available for the S8.

Just got the S8 2 weeks ago, Its an amazing phone, I honestly do not think there is a better phone on the market at the moment. Yes there are disadvantages but the screen, the one thing you look at day in day out is simply gorgeous. The S7 has an amazing screen but the S8 is just on another level.
