Raspberry Pi Network Montitor

Hey all

I love messing around with my network at home, and using it as a learning tool.
At the moment I am looking at SPAN ports, or mirrored port as its called on the switches I have.

What im looking at doing is setting a network logger on a span port and start logging network traffic to see who's doing what on my network
I have played around with NtopNG but I dont really like the interface on it, and it only keeps the logs for a few months (as far as i'm aware)
The other thing is I'm building up a raspberry pi wall of networking gear, DHCP, DNS, FileServer etc 
(Odd I know, but I think it would look cool to have on a wall)

What I'm having a hard time finding is something ideally free, and easy to use, which I can install onto a raspberry pi, and use to log network traffic coming from a span port.
I can then access it via a web GUI and see which devices are using how much data, and popular sites being visited etc

Which does exactly what i am envisioning, but the pricing is set for enterprise, (Supidly pricey)

Anyone have any ideas on software I can use?

Im looking for something a bit more long term, as in the next year or so.
So I can look at historical data for things such as Windows updates, (on patch tuesday)
or if my smart tv connects to a server once a week for updates
ETC
