Copper Faster Then Fiber!?

Hey guys I got Fiber installed in my house last Tuesday I get 950MBPS down and up but I still have my old copper router which gets 80MBPS down and 12MBPS up but something is wrong when I watch a 4K video on youtube the fiber takes forever to load! while the copper one loads fine I also did testmy.net and on fiber I get 500MBPS down and 200MBPS up which is still super fast, on the copper I get 40MBPS down and 9MBPS up so why are youtube videos taking so long to load on fiber? even 1080P videos take very long to load. I tech guy from the company that gives me fiber just came to my house and did not know what to do (AT&T btw) can anyone help me with this thanks!

Try changing your DNS settings? If you're using the default DNS settings the ones AT&T uses could be having issues.

dns settings are set to auto

I use torguard and I think thats it with my vpn on the videos load fast!

#Netneutrality

 

Fiber and copper can both achieve 1Gbps rates so there's no problem there.

AT&T has a very high density network, they're just so shitty about getting someone to come out to your house to fix a simple problem.

 

I have AT&T right now and when I had a decreases in speeds, they told me to factory reset my modem, and it actually worked. So you should try that.

Open a command prompt on you computer and then run the following command on both connections.

 

Pathping 8.8.8.8

 

This will plot your connection and give you an idea where the slowdown issues are.

Also are both connections with at&t?

Yes I reset it with the tech guy here and he said dont change the wifi name maybe thats the problem but my connection is wired lol but the reset did do something for a few minutes

one is comcast and the 1gbps is at&t fiber

if it loads faster with a vpn then your provider is throttling certain services.

I did that now what do I look for?

on youtube turn on stats for nerds and see what the connection speed says with and without the vpn. That will show how much is being throttled by it.

You can also try using google's DNS Server and see if that helps speed it up.

Then click on Internet Protocol Version 6 > Properties > Put the following in the two boxes: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844

Click Ok

Tracert is not a valid way to determine network slow downs. It is not accurate enough

OP go to https://fast.com and if it tells you a number less than 5% of the rated download speed they sell you, then you are being throttled. I am throttled by Centurylink too and had to make my own VPN to stop it

Yep! with my vpn its at 10,000 kbps and with it off its at 2000 kbps
