I have cox as an ISP. With their 300 MBps down and 30 MBps up you get only 1 tb of data per month. I have recently started a project that will require me to download 1-2 tb this month. does anyone know of a way around this.

contact isp for a temporary plan change

Possibly but it will be $10 every 50 gigs.

No, like, a different plan, or sometimes they have an option for unlimited data for a certain amount of money.

Change ISP to a ISP which plays nice. Oh, wait... You're a murican/fucke*.

I do not know of any ISP in the netherlands which still has an (active) data cap. (only "fair use" at best, whatever that means)

I would change isp but all of the ISP's in my area have data caps unless I pay ATT&T more than I am willing to a month.

Not where I live. I have the best plan available to me.

Well then you're gonna need to switch ISPs to one that does, or you're gonna pay more per GB.

You could also move to a different location but that would cost a lot more.

Go to a local Starbucks and download it there. It will be slow, but it won't cost $10 per 50GB.

Any other place with free WiFi would work as well.

what if I just make it so that when the folder gets to 800gb it will dis allow all writes until I manually enable it again. Does anyone know how to do something like this.

I did but they don't allow changes of data cap plans unless you get their gigabit plan but that is not available in my area.

Sounds like your ISP doesn't want your business then. We have a similar situation in my location where 150mbps/15mbps is the best plan available, also with a 1TB cap. We average about 1TB per month, so we're doing OK so far, but I know if I went over regularly enough for them to get after us for it they don't offer a plan with higher data cap anyway, and our contract stipulates that "Internet 150 comes with 1TB of monthly data allowance, but you will not be charged for going over."

Last time I checked / read about it, I read that Cox had an option to pay them $50/month for removing the data cap.

You might be thinking Comcast. Because thats what Comcast does in some areas. It varys between $30 extra to $50 extra.

As far as the OP is concerned. Your just plain fucked. Unless you get two ISPs. @cj7s1 what kind of project? Is it for school or work or just on your own?

Another thought. Most ISPs have business plans that are usually a little more but dont have data caps. Have you looked in to those?

you're right, I was thinking of Comcast. But I found this:

Quote

Cox Communications plans to offer a new unlimited data plan option later this year

EDIT: Also, looking into a business package may make sense for the OP, the downside to that is that if you also get TV service through them, then you can't get exactly the same package - the channel lineups aren't identical on mostly-equal packages.

Looking to buy GTX690, other multi-GPU cards, or single-slot graphics cards:
