So i figured out that my old AMD FX-6300 wouldnt last long anymore with those big open world titles and i thought about upgrading it.

Im playing alot of Arma 3 which (as far as i noticed) benefits from high single core clocks and high frequency RAM thats why i didnt go for Ryzen.

My budget is ~400€ and thats what i came up with: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/user/FreshKD21/saved/7zcD3C

My Current Specs:

CPU: AMD FX-6300

GPU: CLUB 3D R9 280X

Mainboard: Asrock 980de3/u3s3

RAM: 2x4 GB Crucial Ballistix

PSU: Corsair VS 550

Cooler: Alpenföhn Ben Nevis

Storage: Seagate 1Tb 7200RPM

Side info: Im trying to get a SSD with the money i get off selling my old parts.

Actually In my opinion Ryzen is better for gaming especially if you plan to do anything like live streaming and plus even if you go with a low end ryzen CPU there will be a very long life of the socket so you will have a lot of upgrade ability without having to change your motherboard in the future when you want to upgrade.

Only that there's no pricing on the mobo, likely that it's not available brand new. Also you picked 2133MHz RAM, the slowest speed for DDR4. Ryzen supports up to 3200MHz, which is good enough. Intel supports even faster (I have seen 4266MHz), but those are ridiculously expensive.

I myself would have picked a used 4770k.4790k, 2133MHz DDR3 and not pick an SSD since your GPU can have an upgrade too.

Ryzen CPU's come with very good stock coolers (not trying to push you on that, just something to consider, since you wouldnt have to pay more)

Additionally, newer games will favor having more cores (and more threads for that matter) so there's no guarantee the games you will like three years from now will still be single thread High IPC based. I would personally go with the R1600 6C/12T same price with stock cooler option than the 4C/4T with no stock cooler since it's "more future proof"

Also Ryzen isnt as overclockable as Intel (maxmimum ive seen on a Ryzen 1600x is 4Ghz where a I5 7600k can go up to 5Ghz with a good cooler or even higher)

Thanks for 'reminding' me about the RAM, i havent saved my 'new' part list with some 3000Mhz Corsair Vengeance RAM, also used parts are no option for me as my mom has to buy it for me (im only 16) and she doesnt want me to buy used parts, also i will defenetly get a SSD because if i upgrade my graphicscard i will try to get a GTX1070, but since i wont have that amount of money in the next 1 or 2 years ill go for a 90€ SSD to improve my loading times.

As i mentioned in my first post, i already have an Alpenföhn Ben Nevis CPU cooler which should work out for the i5 7500k unless i want to overclock alot, and i thought about getting a Ryzen 1600X and overclock it but since it cant reach more than 4Ghz (which the i5 reaches with ez) i dont think its an option for me, im not looking forward to stream or edit videos, just simple 1080p gaming.

Ah okay I missed the cooler part

My secondary comment still stands though. The i5 7600K will become obsolete sooner than Ryzen would, even for gaming. Just something to consider before you pull the trigger.

I guess i have to deal with that, my guess is that it will last for atleast 4 years and maybe more if i get a good watercooling solution to get higher clocks.

Its hard for me to pick Ryzen because i know how good Arma 3 runs on Intel processors and how badly AMD processors perform in it.

One example: My friend has a i7 4770k (non overclocked) and he easily gets an average of 60fps on high settings while i get 20-30 fps on low in 720p, , yes i know the FX series is 'bad' (but cheap) but its just that i havent heared anything good about AMD in the Arma 3 community. And as u said Ryzen is future proof, if someday maybe arma 4 releases, i dont think they will make a new game engine which uses 100% of all cores/ressources as they didnt do that in arma 3, they still have the 'shitty' arma 2 engine.

Psu is meh, and an ssd would be nice. I switched to a 7500 and got both of those instead, though it's a bit over budget.

The SSD is meh but all the other ones in that price range are 120gb so it seemed like a good choice.

Arma 3 doesn't like Ryzen though. I checked some benchmarks and i5s are beating the 1800x even in minimums. Sooo yeah :/

I dont know why i should upgrade my PSU tbh, i dont plan on doing sth like Crossfire and since i dont have problems with my high tdp R9 280x and fx6300 i dont see the point in getting one.

And yes it is overkill but i thought getting anything less than an i5 7600k just isnt, well futureproof.

Also I dont want to get a SSD yet because i want to get one from the money i make by selling my old parts

Corsair VS PSU gets bad rating by using terrible capacitors. It won't blow up under normal usage, but it won't protect your PC parts when things go bad like a good PSU does.

The vs is a poor quality psu. The bad voltage regulation and voltage ripple mean that in the long term it could result in other components dying faster. As well, it uses bad quality components (like capacitors) which means the psu is more likely to fail sooner (and when it fails it could take your whole pc with it). As well, it doesn't even have an 80+ rating so efficiency isn't very good.

If you're thinking about future proofing honestly you shouldn't even be considering i5s but Ryzen instead xD

Shouldn't i be covered by warranty if sth like that happens? And is it only the VS series from corsair or are all of their PSU's shit? I just picked it up because it was cheap, had enough Watts and it had a name from a big company.

Well the warranty is only three years I think... maybe it's even less xD. So once warranty is over, corsair ain't doing anything.

The VS is probably their worst. They have other ones that aren't great either but they're all better than vs I think. They also make some really good ones though, some are good and some are bad.

Never shop my brand. It's not a good idea. Evga and corsair are "name brands" when it comes to PSUs, but both have bad PSUs in their lineup (corsair has the vs, evga has the n1s which are even worse than the vs and I wouldn't trust using them in any computer, period. VS is like "probably ok but it's highly recommend you get a difference one", but N1 is like "HOLY CRAP GET THAT THING OUT DO YOU WANT A HOUSE FIRE"). If you actually want brands that always have good PSUs, Seasonic and super flower are great (though naturally some are better than others, it's just that all of theirs are at least pretty decent).

If you want you can check out the forums psu tier list. Generally I always recommend tier 3 and above and resort to tier 4 if the budget is really tight. 6 and above is like ok but if it's tier 5 or 6 (especially 6) you should consider getting a new psu. 7 is something you never should go for.
