Help! Looking to buy Processor and motherboard on budget!

Hey! I have a GTX 980 Ti

An AMD FX(tm)-8320 Eight-Core Processor

and  760GM-P34(FX) (MS-7641) Motherboard!

Its pretty hard to run games, im running games like Miscreated at 30-40 FPS and

Black Desert Online at around 20-30 in big cities, Off on quests I get like 50-60 FPS

But I want more, and I'm on a budget of 300$ I'd like to buy a CPU and new motherboard

since I think that's the what I need to boost performance on my PC, but then again i'm not

Need help figuring what Processor and Motherboard I could buy with 300$ to get at least a stable 60+ on these games.

R5 1500X and an B350 motherboard would work well (Doesn't really matter which one, cheapest with all the features you want).

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

If you upgrade from FX to Ryzen or Skylake/Kabylake, take into account RAM as well, since you won't be able to re-use your DDR3 RAM (newer platforms use DDR4).

I'm not really sure what DDR3 or DDR4 ram is, an explanation would be greatly appreciated!

DDR4 runs with lower voltage, higher speed, higher bandwidth. The main thing is that they are not compatible.

It's the type of memory used. PCs have moved to newer standards over time, which are not compatible with previous ones.

More on DDR: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_SDRAM

Whenever you look at a CPU or motherboard, the specs will include which type of RAM they are compatible with. All current models from Intel and AMD use DDR4, but older lineups (like AMD FX or Intel core i 4xxx series) used DDR3. If you have an FX-8320, you have DDR3 RAM. If you buy a Ryzen or an Intel core i 6xxx or 7xxx CPU, you will need DDR4 RAM instead.

I don't know if this is just me being stupid it says I have "Other" type of ram instead of DDR3 or DDR4

I'm not very good with these kinds of things since I bought a prebuilt PC instead of building it, and am gradually learning more and more about what i'd need to do to upgrade this prebuilt. They do make it quite hard to improve!

Opened my PC says on the ram stick DDR3 so that's good to know, So If I wanted Ryzen or Skylake/Kabylake i'd have to buy DDR4 Ram with it?

Could I have some DDR3 motherboards with CPUS and some DDR4 Ram, CPU and Motherboard suggestions? That'd be awesome!

Since the AMD Ryzen 3 chips are not out yet, if you absolutely want the best BUDGET CPU then, in my opinion, your best bet would be the Intel Pentium G4560. In a lot of areas you will be able to find it for <$100 USD. You can pair that with a cheap H110 chipset motherboard and a single stick of DDR4-2133 RAM. Those 3 things together should be well under $300. Of course if you have a little more to spend then its hard to overlook the Ryzen 5 chips, especially the lower end ones like the 1400 and 1500. Both Ryzen and Intel use DDR4 right now so you wont have to worry about that. Motherboards for Ryzen chips shouldnt be too expensive either. Seeing as you have a 980ti then it would be best if you could stretch your budget a little and get as many cores as you can. Don't bother with an i3 though, performance would be similar to the Pentium.

Of course, don't just take my word for it. There are a number of online publications that will give you a more expert opinion.

Take a look at Hardware Unboxed's video.

$600 is too much for a budget upgrade.. if you really want to reach $600 mark, you can choose a better motherboard, with more features you need.
