I am currently waiting for all the poop to settle with launch new chips to see what shakes up.... I want to know what the advantage is for ADM?  To me, as a a novice, it seems like it is comparable to last years Intel  X99 chips maybe just a little weaker?  Besides cost why would you want to go with a AMD 1700-1800x? The new 7820x Seems like a beast for 100 more than a 1800x?  I am missing something? I am Excited that they are close to Intel stuff by really seems like its a year behind Already?

Racing....

it is only $100 more for the CPU. you still need an expensive as hell X299 to go with it.

Gaming, video editing, probaly little streaming...... Have a case waiting to be built just seem like i am waiting to hear if there are problems with the New X299 stuff. But keep seeing the AMD stuff and wondering if i am missing something?

go for the ryzen 1700, 1800x will be better at OC, x299 is not worth getting

a hell of a lot more performance! especially compaired to a 1700

"a hell of a lot more" seems excessive, you need extra hardware to unlock its full potential, ryzen 1700 can be had for 300$, if you get good ram and a decent OC, you should see some nice results, x299 seems like a money grab IMO.

If money is no issue it is definitely worth it. I have my 7820X OC'd to 4.8GHz, RAM at 3000MHz, and cache at 3GHz and performance is amazing. It's the 2nd fastest processor on the market right now only behind the 7900X.

Like I said, if performance is key for you then X299 is where it's at.

If you can justify the price difference, there is no denying the performance.  7820x 24/7 stable at 4.7GHz being cooled by a AIO....

It also has clock for clock single core performance equal to or better than a 7700k...

Nah.  CPU-Z has not been updated to support Skylake-X yet.  It is 1.239v.

As an owner of both an i7 6900K and R7 1700, I prefer the Intel system, although the cost isn't worth the performance benefits for most users.

One of the biggest benefits outside of cost of the R7 1700 over the 6900K is power efficiency. My 6900K can draw around 180-200W when overclocked to 4.4GHz or 140-150W at 4.0GHz (200W in AVX2 workloads), while my R7 1700 only draws around 95-100W at 3.9GHz or 65-70W at 3.8GHz. This is very useful as I run several systems 24/7 under constant load.

For your workload, an R7 1700 would be a very good cost effective option.

If you are considering an X299 system, do not get a cheap motherboard, if you are overclocking you will need a very high quality VRM to handle the power draw, which many of the current motherboards do not have. The performance of X299 will be better than Ryzen, but the cost will be significantly higher. If you don't care about cost, then go for it.

$240-50 more if you get the cheapest  OCable motherboards for each CPU.

As the R7 1700 and the 1800X are effectively the same when overclocked, at the moment the 1700 w/ mobo is roughly $390 compared to the 7820X w/ mobo is roughly $940.

Depending on the total budget though, that difference can end up being a negligible fraction of the total cost.
