Do i need an optical drive?

Creating a bootable usb stick is easy and simple, if you are using windows then the windows media creation tool has the option to create a bootable usb stick, and if you are using anything else just use the rufus tool to put the .iso file onto a usb stick and make it bootable

Presuming you are buying a copy of windows 10, make sure you order the usb version.

You can get portable usb dvd drives for 10-20 bucks at many places.  At that price, I would say get one, make sure it works and you know how to use it, and then put it back in the box and in your drawer.  It'll be one of those cases where you may not need it often, but when you do need, it'll be there.  Cause if you do need one, but you don't have it, you're going to hate yourself for not spending $20.
