Hello Guys,

I'm in need for a laptop and I'm debating between a few. I'm debating between the following laptops;

  • GIGABYTE Aero 15W-BK4 15.6"
  • ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501 15.6”
  • The Razer Blade (GeForce GTX 1060) 14"

I'll describe what I'll be using the laptop for so you can get a better understanding. I'm going off to University for CS and I'm gonna be using my laptop almost 24/7. I'll probably game alot on it(GTA V, Doom 4, Cs:Go, The Division, etc.) and I'll need it alot for rendering 3D graphics. I'm open to suggestions on another laptop and hopefully it wont be too bulky or loud.

Regards,

Kam

I want to throw the Dell Inspiron 7567 with the IPS screen (if it's still an option). The GTX 1050 Ti is fairly decent and as far portability goes, I've seen reviewers get at least 9 hours doing their 200 nit web browsing test.

It's also likely though you'll be in a computer lab a lot if you're doing a lot of assignments with certain software.

Personally the only laptop there I would consider is the Aero 15 since the Zephyrus is overpriced and the Razer is also overpriced but will also throttle horribly.

The Potato Box:

AMD 5950X

EVGA K|NGP|N 3090

128GB 3600 CL16 RAM

The Scrapyard Warrior:

AMD 3950x

EVGA FTW3 2080Ti

64GB 3200 CL16 RAM

@Galm is the man to talk to for this sort of stuff. He has a guide here on the forums for Pascal laptops that he updates frequently:

I would also advise you take a trip over to the notebookreview forums, and speak to the various vendors on that forum. Donald from HIDevolution and Larry from LPC-Digital are both great guys, and sell some of the best laptops in the US. I believe they also offer options for oversea shipping if you truly want their great customer service. You can also look for Eurocom as they sell very similar products.

I highly advise you first determine your max budget, and from there, you will be able to determine exactly which laptop fits within that budget. From a strict price:performance standpoint, HIDevolution offers a custom MSI 15.6 inch gaming laptop with a GTX 1080 and your choice of a legitimate desktop CPU (7600k, 7700k, all delidded with liquid metal on the die). If you have your own Skylake/Kabylake desktop CPU, you can even subtract $250 and use that yourself. They also come with completely unlocked BIOS's that supports both CPU and memory overclocking, as well as a ton of other goodies. I highly advise a model with a 120hz panel. If you are looking for something with less hassle (no CPU removal/upgrading, no overclocking, etc) then they do sell MSI laptops at a very competitive price, with all the features you could want. I am talking legit GTX 1070's, 120hz G-Sync panels and 7700HQ's for $1700-$2000 depending on configuration. If you have your own SSD/HDD, you can also subtract prices from this. I believe student discounts as well as NBR forum discounts are also provided if you call and ask.

Either way, if you are truly looking for a good laptop, I would speak with Galm or the guys over at NBR. They have a genuine passion for laptops, and won't steer you wrong.

and probably a bit more "thermally manageable" for college/university scenarios :P
