I have a 1060 planned in a build i hope to get, but as it turns out, they are running low everywhere. Did crypto-currency miners break all the 580s, or is there something im missing?

yeah, there's a gpu shortage all over. wait for the new stuff like vega to come out. Not sure when stocks will be refilled.

Isnt Vega already released or is that just to big tech people like Linus himself

gpu shortage due to cryptocurrency mining.

quantity demanded is far greater than quantity supplied [shortage].

therefore price rise change in all things equal toi keep things steady.

also if i did hear properly they did increase the requirements for hashing so 4gb cards were potentially going to be less efficient in the futurecoming, which meant 1060 6gbs /1070 8gbs were the next target unfortunately. i cant seem to word it properly for this description but i hope it sorta make sense or someone could restructure my paragraph :).

True but like Mooshi said, 1060s arent optimal for mining so whats the deal lmao

Ethereum isn't the only thing, and you're still looking at well over 1 USD a day, more like 2, after electricity. That's enough for some people. It's a risk, given that prices could go back down, but it's also possible they stabilize around here for at least several months or go up again.

If the best thing isn't available, you go to the 2nd best, or 3rd, or 4th, all the way down the line until it doesn't make sense anymore. Enough people think it makes sense (right or wrong) with the GTX 1060.

I guess they are living with a slight compromise aka the 2nd best, as both 1060/1070 have low tdp comparitively in contrast to say a 1080/1080ti and power consumption values. [you want to save power... right?]

actually 1070 is faster at mining than 1080 due to GDDR5 Vs. GDDR5X

and with 1060/1070 you're looking at mining zCash that has CUDA acceleration instead of Ether, the profit is still not as much, but as you said - 2nd best
