Help - Selecting a Monitor

Hey guys, I am deciding on a monitor to purchase and I need help. I am purchasing the monitor for gaming and movies (21:9 Ideal) – productivity is not that important to me I will just be using the monitor for general browsing activities such as YouTube etc….

Currently I am thinking about purchasing the BenQ XR3501 (£390 - ATM).

Useful information

-          Desk is 60cm in depth

-          GTX 1070 powering the system

-          1080/1440p (either resolution is fine)

-          Prefer 21:9

-          Curved display ideal

-          27”+ minimum display size

-          Budget is £400 (UK)

I’m confused I don’t have much knowledge this is the first time I will be selecting a monitor HEEELP!

Thanks in advance.

On a side note though, where are you finding the benq for £390? On PCPP it's £499, so maybe you're looking somewhere where there's better deals...

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Not bad – I do think the BenQ is better (it is on ebuyer). BTW do you think 1080p on a 35” display would look bad?

Hm I see.

I would personally say yes. I own a 29" 2560x1080 monitor and it's not bad if you're gaming with aa on (I don't actually notice it even with aa off while gaming, except when I stop moving), but when doing web browsing or productivity I do notice text and stuff isn't that clear.

If most of what you're gonna be doing is gaming and watching movies, I think it's possible it won't matter much. As I mentioned gaming is kinda fast paced which means I don't notice it much, and I'd guessed that you might not notice it while watching movies much either (stuff moving around, you might sit farther back). So I think for you the benq might make more sense (not to mention 144 hz is nice to have).

The best would be for you to try it out but that's usually not an option :/
