i5 7600k or r5 1600

I'm building a new pc. I currently have a PC, but I want to upgrade.

Parts:

I3 6100

Nzxt x62 AIO

gtx 1060 3gb

8 gb of ddr4 ram

z170 mobo from msi

I want to upgrade my system soon, but I can't decide between ryzen or Intel.

I didn't want to spend too much on the CPU so, I decided either ryzen r5 1600 or i5 7600k.

(most likely paring with a 1080 or vega)

Is the 7600k or 1600 better?

As well, what mobo should i choose?

if you pick the i5 you don't have to change anything else.... ryzen will take you a new mobo

ryzen is objectively better but it's more finicky and you need more money for the board to go with it

What speed of ram should I choose if I go 1600, I hear that ram speeds for ryzen is really important

If u have a mobo already i would go with a i7 7700 used or new, but a 1600 will still be good if you go for ryzen

Neither, stay with current motherboard and upgrade to 7700k (Update its Bios first so its compatible).

i5's are terrible value, locked or not. Either go Ryzen R5 or drop in an i7 into existing system.

As much as I hate to admit it, the 7700K is the better option for you right now rather than going with ryzen.

But, also you could consider Ryzen I guess.

Ryzen 1600 + b350 board approx $277 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NVwy7h

i7 7700k  $326

Plus, you have the CPU+mobo you could sell or re-purpose for a NAS or something if you wanted. Either choice is good really.

Please quote my post, or put @paddy-stone if you want me to respond to you.

The thing is, when I make the new pc, I am going to be using the z170 mobo for mining eth. So, either way I'm going to be buying a new mobo. Since I'm doing that, should I just buy ryzen?

Consider waiting for coffee lake. Even if you don't plan on buying a coffee lake CPU, there is a very good chance prices on kaby lake will drop once that hits.

If you are getting a new mobo then R5 1600 all the way.

It is important, anything over 2666 will do. Diminishing returns after that. I use corsair vengeance LPX 3000

Yes, I saw that too late, my post still stands though as I said either option is good. In fact the 1600+mobo costs less than the 7700K, and he can sell his current cpu/mobo to make some of that money for the upgrade.

Edit: that AIO deserve to be with either 7700k or Ryzen 7

I agree with you about the 7700k also being an option but in another post he says he is keeping the Z170 board for a mining rig.

Yeah, I just saw that after I posted the reply to yours :D

Definitely is the way to go then, IMO it's be a silly move to get a new 270 board and 7700K for instance, just a much cheaper and better move to go ryzen in that case, will be suitable for gaming and content creation simultaneously streaming etc, and if just gaming even ryzen is catching up now more gaem optimizations are appearing.

get the ryzen 1600 with b350 motherboard that would save you money and will be worth it
