Hey guys
so my lan party pc is built from spare parts but im short a PSU and i was looking at the CX850M as i don't have much money and i need 850w's of power.
The specs of this glorious machine are:
2 x GTX 480 SLI Water-cooled
1 x X5460 (LGA 771)
EVGA Nforce 780i mobo
2 x 7.2k 180gb drives
5 x 120mm rad fans
4 x 2gb ddr2
generic 12v molex pump

i currently run a CX650M in my main rig and its been absolutely perfect and i love this new corsair lineup so im hoping the 850 variant is just as good so any advice would be appreciated apart from comments such as "dont waste your money/time on such old parts" because i don't care.
cheers guys

i think that's the older CX series power supplies but since the new range is supposed to have improved on that i se no way it can be worse so cheers.

btw i noticed the Ryzen overclocking guide under your message and was just wondering, How do you find Ryzen so far?

Rock solid since April. Love getting beta BIOS, made the crosshair worth the money. Great CPU I have a 1700 @ 4GHz, excellent value and performance.

Yes it will be fine.

How much are you paying for it though?

yeah the old GTX 480's suck a fair bit of power admittedly but they still run games pretty good i found when the pc only had one 480 in it.

Yes older hardware is thirsty :P Now you are good with 500W. Efficiency :)

$149 (AUD) not alot of choice here in Aus and that really the cheapest without sacrificing quality.

What about one of these? They are way better and 750W is quite a bit more than you will need even after heavy OC.

The price is not that much higher.

The old and new 850Ms are not that different from eachother like the lower-spec models. Either would be fine for OP, although I question why SLI GTX 480s...?

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

best price to performance gpu's i have spare. 1 performs the same as a 750ti, 2 peform the same as a 770 and i only payed $40 (AUD) for both with their waterblocks. I love 480's and i find it so much more fun to have an older cooler looking rig for lan like this watercooled X5460 gtx 480 sli than my current main rig which is just an aircooled I5 2400, gtx 780 combo which i also love but older hardware is cooler to see running games that their deemed "not good enough for". like my other watercooled pc was a Dell 3100 case with a 755 board, Q6600 @2.9ghz with a GTX 480 and it ran GTA V on high which was fantastic for my Home Theatre/spare gaming pc/lan rig, however that dell board died and its cheaper for me to buy a 780i board than it is to buy a new dell 755 board.

so in short: because i want to

My 750m just blew up on me. It's not the best if you plan to consistently use it at high loads, such as the f@h I did. So i guess you should be fine as long as you don't constantly use it.

well i mean a PSU blowing up doesn't necessarily mean its bad all psu's die eventually its just a matter of how long.
but anyway its only going to be a lan pc/HTPC/back up gaming rig/show piece

Yeah you should be fine.

I'll note that it was in use for less than a year before it died.
