Extreme SSD health test.

What is the most accurate and exact storage test you can do? I've made several posts about this in the past, but I think I am going to try again. 

 

I bought an OCZ ARC 100 240GB on craigslist a while back. I ran several SMART tests like CrystalDiskInfo for one. And they come back looking pretty good. I'm not a SMART master, but it says good and I dont see anything wrong. 

 

Now this is very weird. Everyone once and while I'll get an error on Windows 10 that says something about needed to restart to fix errors. Sometimes the Start Menu wont open. Other times Sound or Network pop ups wont open from the taskbar. Recently I saw a bug where I couldn't open Windows Apps and if I did somehow manage to open one, I couldn't see it ALT-TAB. 

 

Now dont say "just reinstall windows". I have CLEAN installed (wiped completely) and reinstalled windows at least 15 different times. No joke. I just want to know what's wrong with it and if it can be repaired. The guy off of craigslist didn't give the box so I can't send it for warranty, and even I could I am sure the warranty has expired by now.

run a full run of badblocks, that will tell you if there are errors.

How would I do that?

Maybe it isn't the disk. Could the CPU/ram be unstable or bad? That could also contribute to those symptoms. Try a stability test on those.

No. Ive used on several computers. I had in my desktop then replaced it with the 850 evo and its been perfect. When my laptop's hdd died i put it in there. Almost identical situation.

thats on linux. Should work in almost any distro.

Ok, is there some OCZ utility for the drive? Check if there's a firmware update.

I'm running out of ideas then. You could do a semi-manual test. Copy a large file (some GB) to the SSD, but keep the original elsewhere. Use something like MD5 to work out the hash of both files. They should be identical. If not, something has gone wrong.

Running the -NVS code now. If that doesn't do anything I'll do the WVS

I'm running out of ideas then. You could do a semi-manual test. Copy a large file (some GB) to the SSD, but keep the original elsewhere. Use something like MD5 to work out the hash of both files. They should be identical. If not, something has gone wrong.

something else is the problem. Check ram and if the image is good.

Also can just be buggy windows. Does this happen in other oses

I've only tried Windows 10, but I've used several different installers. I'm 90% sure its not the Install. Even if its fine on Linux or MacOS it's still a problem because I want to use Windows. I've even installed and updated to W10 from a Windows 8 CD.

Try H2TestW. It fills and verifies each bit on the drive. It identified a bad SSD for me that passed everything else

Unfortunately SSDs are picky bastards and won't let you control where media is written to.
