fps drop in games

hey,

i upgraded to Asus rog x99 gaming and 6950x cpu and i got drop in fps compared to my previous build which was Z170 with i7 6700k.

i play world of warcraft legion.

i need help

wow is a single threaded poorly optimized game, even a 6700k overclocked + gtx 1070 playing at 1080p will give you fps drops low as 35.

Well, the i7 6950X is pretty bad at games as far as CPUs go, a binned i7 7700K with 2 cores disabled and overclocked to like 6GHz on phase change would have costed about the same all in all and given a lot better performance. As someone mentioned the game isn't really that well optimised for that many cores, try looking for the core with the best overclocking potential as marked by the asterisk and overclock that one core a lot more than the others.

6950x is a poor use of money as you will never be able to utilise all of the core as will generally provide worse performance in normal gaming than an i7

6950X performs worse in 99% of the games compared to the 6700K, in some a lot worse. New Games scale very nicely up to 12Threads, but that's it (That's why there are no performance gains between Ryzen 7 1700 and Ryzen 5 1600, most of the time) Because of the much lower single-thread performance, you will lose fps compared to the 6700K. Return it while you still can, and keep using the 6700K.

You downgraded, is what you did. Because the 6950X actually is worse in WoW than the 6700K. My condolences.

after i tried the i7 6950x in gaming , i have to say it sucks compared to the i7 6700k.
