Can I run a RX 580 on a 350W PSU?

Curious1219

Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum. So I had this question. Can I run a RX 580 on my 350W PSU? And what may happen if I do?

Short answer: Nope, no way in hell.

Longer answer: The RX 580 would need at least a 500W PSU to have enough juice. Generally a 350W PSU should only be used on a computer without a discrete graphics card (which draws a big amount of power) and even that in some cases might not be enough. I would suggest that you invest in a good PSU (not just higher wattage, but good quality as well) because it's a very integral part of the computer, powering everything else. If things go very wrong with it, it could fry the rest of your hardware.

The card recommends a 500W psu , with a 350W it won't get the job done. I don't know much about prices outside of America, but if you are in America go ahead and buy a CXM Grey Label 450/500W PSU. They are great and cheap.

Meh, if you're upgrading from a 350W psu, i would upgrade to something like a 650 atleast. Handy for the future.

True but the CXM 650W psu doesn't cost TOO much , so he can upgrade if he needs to.

it's possible to run it on a good 350w PSU, but it's gonna be REALLY close to the edges, over that if not all the wattage is on the 12v rail or your CPU is power hungry.

i wouldn't risk it, get a better PSU, but no need for a 500w unit, a cx450m will do just fine.

Exactly why he is better off buying it instantly, the price difference is very little, and buying a 500W now and a 650W in another year is more expansive in the long run. But it depends if the OP has the budget ofcourse

The price difference is so little, why go for a 450? Will only need a update again whenever he tries to add components again. Also, better a bit to much watt than to little. Looking at price difference a smart choice would be to go for a higher one.

I've got a PC with a 7th Gen Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM and B250 Prime Motherboard, the PSU is a CoolerMaster 350W. Would do?

i meant no need to strictly get a 500w unit PSU. even a gtx 1080 will run just fine on a cx450m.

wattage would have been just enough but 350w + coolermaster = bad quality(probably). get a better PSU

try this cx450m(assuming you're in the US), great value after rebates.
