The 5550 is better than what you already had?  I'm assuming what you already had was not the 7870 in your signature?

Desktop: Intel Core i7-6700K, ASUS Z170-A, ASUS STRIX GTX 1080 Ti, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 512 GB Samsund 840 Pro, Seasonic X series 650W PSU, Fractal Design Define R4, 2x5TB HDD

Other spare hypervisors: Dell Poweredge 2950, HP Proliant DL380 G5

Yes as long as that PSU doesn't have a HORRIBLE efficiency (it didn't explode yet so I say yes)

What do you mean by terrible efficiency.

In that case, just about any dedicated GPU is better than the onboard.

Your computer could crash or your power supply would fail and it could possibly bring some of your components with it too.

Might catch on fire, explode, melt, warp the space/time field into creating a black hole where the power supply used to be dooming us all because you're a jackass like that. :)

Might just turn off.
