Gigabyte has revealed some of their X299 motherboards. At the top of the line, there is the Aorus Gaming 9, follow by Gaming 7, and Gaming 3.

  • All run on socket 2066, for Intel KabyLake-X and Skylake-X
  • 8x DIMMS for DDR4 ram
  • 5 physical x16 slots, all LED illuminated and steel plated, except for Gaming 3
  • Triple M.2 slots with heatsinks on Gaming 9, only 1 with heatsink on Gaming 7 and dual M.2 slots on Gaming 3 with no heatsinks
  • CMOS battery is place in the path of the M.2. Not sure if heat will cause any issue to it, when a M.2 drive is directly on top of it.
  • 24-pin power + dual 8-pins on Gaming 9 and Gaming 7. 24-pin + single 8-pin for Gaming 3
  • 8 SATA ports, less than what X99 had offered
  • LED debug code only on Gaming 9 and Gaming 7, none on Gaming 3
  • Built in switches, most likely for power and reset. Additional ones on Gaming 9 and Gaming 7. And a single switch above the front panel header, next to a motherboard mounting hole on Gaming 9 and Gaming 7
  • Almost similar I/O ports across all boards, dual lan and wifi on Gaming 9 and Gaming 7. Isolated power USB on Gaming 7. Gaming 9 probably has it too, can't tell due to the built in LED I/O plate
  • LED illuminated points on various parts of the board with support for 16.8 million colors

Looking at the Gaming 7 photo, it looks like it has 2 M.2 slots sans the heatsinks.

Also, can't find the third M.2 on the Gaming 9, perchance it's on the back?

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

And what's with the rear panel IO?  It's super spaced out like there was supposed to be twice as much but they skimped out or something... makes it look low end imo

There is a switch right under the 3rd m.2 next to a screw hole. Looks like them rgb has priority over that switch. Next up rgb plate where cpu socket once was and cpu socket is now located behind motherboard.

Agreed.  Looks like Asus' built-in I/O panel is beginning to spread to other manufacturers.  This is a good thing.

Am I just blind or does the 3 have 2 front panel USB 3 headers while the other two higher end ones only have 1?

I may be weird, but I actually like the way it looks. Lighting integrated into existing subcomponents is much nicer than board space being eaten up by purely aesthetic elements.

Hopefully Gigabyte brings the performance again like they did with Z270.

3xM.2 slots is good. SATA is so incredibly dated at this point.

SATA is dated?  Really?  What do you propose we replace it with?  Seems to be working perfectly fine for the vast majority of SSDs and HDDs....
