You could go up to a 1080 Ti with no issues depending on which programs you use.

Price drops have made the 1070 a great choice. < This would be my choice unless you're playing some AAA titles at 2560x1080 or larger.

so his cpu is bottlenecking a 950 and you say get a 1070? makes no sense

You have it backwards. My 950 is bottlenecking my CPU. All of my games on Ultra show 100% GPU and maybe 35% CPU.

What cards in XFire or SLI can produce the same performance as the 1070? I want to fill both GPU slots because it looks ugly af with only one filled.

I think your best bet would be two 470/570's or 480/580's in SLI.

$384 isn't too bad for a 1070.

I have three screens, 4480x1080. Fallout 4, Skyrim 2K, etc. The 950 does an okay job but I want something that looks good and performs well.

How do 950s in SLI perform?

950's can't do SLI unless there's one model that can. If you can search Ebay for used 770's or 970's, they'd be a cheaper alternative.

Why is everyone suggesting AMD cards? I don't like the new AMD cards, the older HD XXXX cards were much better.

If you want two cards without breaking the bank, AMD would be the way to go. Unless you can afford two 1070's or what I've said above.

The GTX 950 FTW supports two-way SLI.

Two 1070s? Lol I wish.

I'm trying to sell 4 PCs for about $175 each but nobody's buying them. Fairly good specs.

What's the cost? Is moving up to 970's worth the added cost?

I'm pretty sure two 970's still pull their weight against a single 980 Ti.

Let's see here. I purchase everything from Amazon for the lowest price I can find.

I already have a 950 FTW. Another would cost me $150, and an SLI bridge would be like $15.

Two GTX 970s would still be about $600, maybe more.

I found a single 4GB 970 for $191. The rest are still stupidly expensive, and everyone I talk to on Craigslist still wants 300+ for theirs.

a 1070 would be better than two 970s in terms of price/performance, at $362.

The cheapest GTX 1080 I can find is the GTX 1080 FTW ACX 3.0 at $462.

No idea what the performance would be like, but for the money and aesthetics it may be a good choice for $165. If you're buying new, it may come with the SLI bridge.
