Does ripping cd audio wipe the cd?

KagoKajino

My dad got me the album Demon Days by Gorillaz and I was wondering, if I rip the audio from the cd will the cd be blank? I want to keep the audio on the cd encase I want to put it into the cd player in my car while on the road.

Nope. "Ripping" just means reading the data.

Ok, thank you!

Nope. I was afraid of that too, but it doesn't hurt the CD.

Handbrake is a very popular program for ripping CDs. iTunes does it by default as well.

It hurts the RIAA......:(.

But the RIAA and MPAA can go  F^(#  themselves.

This doesn't mean I condone piracy.  But I do feel that some associated people and companies involved are way too extreme, greedy, and total dumbasses.  I'm not saying someone should beat them with a rubber hose or a sock full of apples.  But I probably wouldn't immediately step in to prevent it, until they've had a few licks.

What do you mean? How is ripping a CD piracy?

It isn't if you own it and are making a backup. It's the same as if you just carried the CD everywhere and played it of whatever you were using at the time, except ripping it from the CD means you can leave it at home so it doesn't get all scratched up.

No. If you take your friends CD home and rip the music off it, that's piracy. Doing it to protect your investment, or make it easier to listen to your music, it's not piracy.

More of a jesting asshole.....but there is truth in it.

As Zando said, making a backup or keeping it for personal use is fine.  Ripping it and selling it for profit.....it's legal in the North Korean black market.
