Optiplex 990 flashing amber light

Hello,

 

I have recently upgraded an Optiplex 990 MT. Its original specs were an i5-2400 and 8gb of RAM(2x4gb mixed, in slots 2 and 4). I added a R9 290 with a Raijintek Morpheus cooler, a fan, a fan hub, and a Corsair CX650M PSU. Everything fit in fine. However, when I hooked it up to the wall, flipped the switch on the PSU to on, and pressed the power button, the computer didn't turn on. Instead, I got a flashing amber light on the power button. No fans spun, nothing. Here's what I've tried to fix it so far:

 

-Taking out the CMOS battery, and letting it rest for 4 minutes before putting it back in

-Making sure the Outlet to PSU cable is secure

-Reseating 4 pin cpu and 24 pin motherboard connections

-Swapping out RAM

-Changing RAM slots

-Taking out my graphics card and trying to turn it on

-Taken out the outlet-to-psu cable, holding the power button for 20 seconds, and then turning it back on again

 

None of these have worked. Please help!

It could be that you would need an adapter for the 24 pin mobo connector if Dell used a proprietary motherboard, what they like to do.

Main System:

Media System "Vio": Aorus Elite AX V2, Ryzen 7 5700X, 64 GB Ram DDR4 3200 Mushkin, 1 275 GB Crucial MX SSD, 1 tb Crucial MX500 SSD. IBM 5015 Megaraid, 4 Seagate Ironwolf 4TB HDD in raid 5, 4 WD RED 4 tb in another Raid 5, Gainward Phoenix GTX 1060

I don't think so, the 24 pin from my PSU fits the slot of my motherboard.

fitting yes wiring not neccessarily the same. You still got the old PSU a hand?

try that one out, if it isn't hardly pressed to run the hardware on low performance.

It's a 265 watt. So I'll try taking the GPU out and turning it on with the old psu.

Dell computers can be funny about their power supplies and add in cards, especially the OptiPlex series (I speak from experience as I own 12 Dell systems, most of which are OptiPlex's).

It worked. So is the problem the 24 pin connector? The socket looks a bit different on the old psu and the new one.

reseat old psu and ram and do upgrade ram first reboot then psu + gfx

Could someone link me an adapter? I just tried out the new psu, and ok and behold, the 24 pin didn't fit right.

It is hard to know which one will work because Dell uses own wirings sometimes on several own devices.

I solved it by pushing the 24-pin power cable in with extra force. Apparently other people had the same problem with their Corsair PSUs, and they said that this fixed it, so I tried it. PC is now working great!
