Some versions are illegal in some countries.

I don't know what version they played, but if they had steel tips then it is (I believe) illegal in Canada.

Or maybe it was just their typical clickbait title...

They were advertised as toys, kids were getting hurt, so they couldn't sell them as toys.  Then in 1987 a 7 year old got killed by one, so they banned them in the USA fully after some more injuries...eventually.  The ban followed into many countries out of a safety fear.

One wonders how us older generations survived all these dangerous toys!  Oh wait......most had common sense and watched our kids and taught them how to play these games.  It seems we're becoming a more and more padded, isolated, safe-space society these days.

Metal tipped Lawn Darts were banned by Health Canada in 1989, that's why they said so.  However their POSSESSION is not banned by the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act but rather import, sale, resale or other distribution is illegal.
