Extending ethernet with wired repeater

I am trying to get Internet access in the basement of my house, but I don't have a long enough ethernet cable. Is there any way to use a router to extend an ethernet cable by using two ethernet cables?

If you disable stuff like the dhcp server and connect your cables to two lan ports (not wan) it just acts as a switch with a access point attached to it.

Seems like a complex solution for a simple problem. A RJ45 coupler barely costs anything.

Just get a super cheap RJ45 coupler. They're not hard to find.

Yes, it will work, but as others have said an rj45 coupler is a more sensible solution, very cheap too.
