Posted May 21, 2017 Hello, this is my first post here, I built a budget rig a couple months ago and a friend of mine is offering to sell me his GTX 1080 for $150. So I figure ill need a new CPU to go along with it. Below are my current specs. MSI B250m Pro-VD MOBO Pentium G4560 CPU Radeon RX 470 4gb MSI ARMOR OC GPU EVGA 430w PSU 8gb DDR4-2133 ram I am wondering if I can get away with getting an i5-7600 as opposed to an i7-7700 (my mobo cant overclock). Will an i5 be throttle a gtx 1080? If so, what are your guys suggestions? I only have about $400ish to work with (US). Also, will I HAVE to upgrade my PSU? It is brand new and I would rather not if I do not have to. Thanks in advance for your help.
 Posted May 21, 2017 Well, brand new meaning I bought it and installed it. It isn't brand new in the box. I dont think amazon would let me return it, but maybe? Can it not handle a 1080? And if not, why?

On that note, an i5 will work just fine with the 1080. No need to get a i7 if you don't really need it for anything else. Subsequently, you will need to update your motherboard. Definatly bump your PSU upto atleast 550w. My rig draws almost 470w of power My Computer Rig: MSI Z270 Pro Carbon Intel i7 7700k Nvidia 1080ti Founders Edition 11gb Corsair Vengence LPX 16gb 3000Mhz Ram MSI Frozr CPU Cooler Seagate 3tb 7200rpm HDD Sandisk 256gb SSD (Boot Drive) Corsair CX550M Power Supply Corsair SPEC-ALPHA Case
 I don't plan on overclocking. Why wouldn't this one work?
Posted May 21, 2017 Oh Shit! My bad, I was responding to another thread with a similar problem. Your MB is LGA 1151 and the CPU is LGA 1151 compatable. You should be fine with the your current motherboard. Sorry for any confusion My Computer Rig: MSI Z270 Pro Carbon Intel i7 7700k Nvidia 1080ti Founders Edition 11gb Corsair Vengence LPX 16gb 3000Mhz Ram MSI Frozr CPU Cooler Seagate 3tb 7200rpm HDD Sandisk 256gb SSD (Boot Drive) Corsair CX550M Power Supply Corsair SPEC-ALPHA Case
 Just make sure you don't cheap out on the psu, then 550w should be fine.
