Problems with DDR4

Go to solution Solved by Linksys120n,

Also I found out why I was getting shitty benchmarks.... I derped when putting the RAM in and had it in single channel mode... I swaped one stick over to the next slot and bam I got a normal score.

So I built my dream PC... Ryzen 7 1800X with the best motherboard I could afford and was actually in stock at the time and 16 Gigs of DDR4 RAM but I decided to save about 20 or 30 bucks by not getting the overclocking RAM and deciding I would give it a mild overclock anyway because we all know that it can handle it...

So after a day of use at stock speeds to make sure everything worked I set my RAM to 2666 in the bios then went into windows to run a few benchmarks... but there was a problem... every app I used said my RAM was running at 1067...

So just now I went and got an even newer BIOS and did the same thing and even tripple checked that yes my BIOS says my RAM is indeed clocked at 2666... but windows still claims its at 1067...

DDR is double data rate. You multiply by two when reading off those programs. It's actually running at 2133.

Ryzen is super picky with ram. What kit do you have and are they listed on the vendor list for approved memory with your mb manufacturer?

Edit: Checked the link and see it's a 2133mhz kit, it's running within spec. If you want fast ram speed, you pony up the extra dosh, make sure your motherboard supports and then you're good.

G.SKILL Ripjaws V DDR4 2133 C15 2x8GB

I can't see any reason why a super popular name brand like that wouldn't be supported??? As Far As I Know this is some of the most popular RAM on the market.

It's supported, but obviously you are guaranteed 2133Mhz, not 2666.

Why does user benchmark make it sound like i'm using the slowest RAM in the world though?

Dunno.

you are running the slowest DDR4 in the world though.

Imo you should return the 1800x and ram, then get a 1700 and faster ram and then overclock the 1700. You'll get better perf. And save 100$

Newegg returns are 30 days... I bought the CPU on day one hour one when Ryzen came out in march... the reason my PC just got built now is because I was missing things like a CPU cooler until just this month...
