4gb is not good enough. You need at least 6.

4gb is way more than enough for 1080p gaming still.

there's a really big difference between the prices. the rx 580 is $250 and the 1060 is only $160. I kinda can't afford that

4Gb is still fine for 1080p, much better value here than the 1060 3Gb anyway.

for 1080p, it is enough, but I prefer to have some head room, even on my 1080p rig.

Still should be fine for another few years at least, nor do I see any other option for OP.

It is enough, but you don't want to limit a gpu's power by limiting its vram.

also I LOVE your signature.

By the time 4gb of vram is not enough for 1080p the GPU itself will be to weak to make a difference.

Still nothing better for OP to chose here (Nor would I say 4Gb is an issue). What is so good about my sig?

Trick question! The answer is neither. Worth mentioning the 3GB 1060 is not just less VRAM but also has a sneaky core disable going on there so performance will be lower.

Performance:

580 > 1060 > 570 > 560/1050Ti

Price:

1060 > 580 > 570 > 1050Ti

EDIT: As this parametric filter demonstrates

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LH2bzM

EDIT 2: I found that 1060 and it is the 3GB version with cut down core count AND its a mini card so won't perform as well anyway due to likelihood of thermal throttling due to lack of cooling.

avoid the 3gb 1060, 1080p games on medium/high already eat 3.3-3.9gb of vram

Some games like Mirrors Edge catalysm, Deus Ex, Rise of the Tomb Raider, can even break 7gb usage (doesn't mean they NEED that much... it's just how much they consume).

However.. 3gb is a real bummer, and will force you to reduce expecially texture settings down to medium~.

@ thread: Well.. You can overclock a 1050 ti as much as you want, the difference is much higher. Around +60-90% performance.

Even if you undervolt a 1060 to 0.8 volt and underclock to 1800-1870 Mhz~, it will be MUCH faster than the fastest 1050 ti possible.#

Oh and btw: Different 1060 models... have the exact same Performance. Why? --> They have the exact same Chip: a GTX 1060.

Small differences because the one has +30 Mhz, than the other. You can ignore that. This is something you can do with MSI Afterburner yourself within 3 seconds.

Main difference are the Coolers. Cooling performance / Fan noise.

The 1060 is a stronger card. A good 1050Ti isn't going to come close to a higher tier card. That said, the 3GB GTX 1060 sucks. You can get an RX 470/570 for $160-170 which will out-perform the 3GB 1060.

Worst 1060 by far. You literally never choose the best lower tier card over the worst upper tier card.

I always facepalm when some person says this game eats this much Video ram, it's always based on what they see in MSI AB... and it's never correct.

LMAO.
