Craptastic Win10 Auto-Updates

Coczilla

Had a craptastic weekend fixing my computer after big May forced update for Win10. Figured I'd share my experience.

This more a story of my headache/heartache, than it is for tech advice. Hence why I put it in the General Section.

After taking that big May update for win10, my computer would freeze after 1-10minutes after loading(could move mouse, but nothing responsive including keyboard). I had a "not-so-sure" failing SSD, since I had to reconnect it 2x in past 6months manually to get my BIOS to recognize it(was waiting till it died), swapped cables last time and sata port. Then I'd randomly get MB beeps on reboots for 4-beeps which indicates memory issue.

So I reinstalled win10 over a dozen times..... Sometimes would freeze mid install, due to my SSD. But each time I couldn't see what I opened in Windows after fresh install(seemed to be right after an auto update, since it would flicker my display and give me 1080p). Which I couldn't tell if it was due to my failing hardware or software update. Upon reboot each time after this happened, I'd see win10 load but then black screen....

Turns out I was victim of 2 known bugs with win10. If you have on-board video and a GPU, it sometimes expands it as if you configured 2 displays(hence why I couldnt see what I opened, it was on the other display). Then upon reboot, it would 100% fully goto my secondary display, which was my TV via hdmi.

I literally was pulling my hair out.... Bought 8gigs more of ram, thinking it might be part the issue. Bought a new SSD knowing I needed one anyway. Just to walk into these 2 bugs again and again and AGAIN!!!

Then I stumbled upon an old bug from 2014 with win10. About dual video displays and win10 trying to expand onto both. Then hitting (winkey+p, then down arrow 2x, then enter) Would fix the expand problem. But upon reboot it would fully goto my secondary display my Tv, giving me a black screen.

So when I was on my last straw basically.... I was going to run my computer off my onboard video, to see if it would work. Saw my HDMI cord and wondered... Turned my tv on saw my computer... Unplugged HDMI and WHAM working like it should have 8+hours ago!!!

So now my computer is fixed. Damn sure previous freezes were SSD, win10 update, or combination of both. But those 2 bugs! drove me mad when trying to fix my computer! Like why doesn't this work!

Sucked... But now I'm at 16gigs of ram, which I wanted to upgrade to. Bought another SSD so I feel safe about my SSD again. Turned my old SSD as a Games Only SSD. Which ran fine with my game on it for over 4hours. Updated my Bios to current firmware and beeps went away and better support for my CPU now. Plus added OC options. Memtest shows no problem with any of my RAM.

I just wanna kick Microsoft in the nuts for forcing updates and having this stupid bug since 2014....

I like to use this phrase when these kinds of things come up.

"A classic case of Windows 10 Syndrome."

The next issue with Windows 10 I have I'm going full Hackintosh on my PC.

Here's what I did:

1) put windows 10 on a USB

2) unplugged all but my OS drive

3) deleted the partitions and clean installed

4) plugged my other drives back in

5) that's it, everything worked great.

Some people backup their files on an external drive, use cloud storage, or just don't bother saving files because they don't need any.

That isn't a justification for irrational behavior.........

Saying "I don't care if all my files are encrypted because I can just restore from a backup" is just dumb. You could just update and secure the computer and do nothing else.........or........... format your drive, install windows again, and restore all of your data. Just because you "didn't care."

Man I've tried most things minus regedit. Its quite annoying... Especially when it interrupts my gaming to schedule a reboot for updates. Which is the newer thing they do now. If you click no or off, it will just repop up again and again.

So what is it I'm not doing to stop win10 updates?
