Hi all,

ive been looking into external dacs recently in an effort to boost the sound quality of my music.

I currently have a pair of Sennheiser Momentums and a nexus 6 and my friend has the oneplus 3 with the Sennheiser Urbanites.

My question to you is do you think an external DAC would improve the quality of either of these phones/headphones or are the existing codecs already a decent standard?

You want an external dac  (which you need am amp for as well otherwise it won't work) for your phone? So to use it on the go?

To clear your question up though, you don't need one.

yeah, i mean the amp and dac sorry, ive seen some such as the Fiio range of amps which look promising from the reviews, i just wanted to get an idea of whether it would be worth the money over the standard Amp and dac codec built into the devices.

Probably not.

No it'd not unless your device is shit OR you are using high end headphones where it makes a difference, which you are not.

Re: DAC? I picked up a used Turtle Bay DSS2 ($40 on Kijijii here in Toronto), and plugged it into the TOSlink of my XB1 console. The popping & hissing vanished for me (on my cans). The little gadget even produces a virtual surround sound that scares the bejezzus out of me when I play Metro. So, yes, consider an external DAC/amp (especially for headphones). My 2 cents...
