youtube buffering issue only in google chrome

KNARF_XD

Hello my dudes,

There is this issue that is annoying me, youtube buffers too slow (1080p 60fps) in google chrome, the solution that i found when searching was disabling hardware acceleration, that didn't help at all.

i opened the stats for nerds on youtube, the difference between chrome and edge is staggering, edge uses between 0 and 2000 KB and has around 30s of buffer, chrome on the other hand, never seen it using more than 200KB (without dipping to 0) and it of course doesn't have a constant buffer.

Because hardware acceleration isn't the culprit i suspect that there is something that caps the speed that youtube can use to buffer.

is there anyone who knows a fix for this?

thanks!

ps. if you need more info, just ask, idk what else you guys (or girls) need to know

Google has a tendency to just stop the flow of data at random times. Its most likely due to load on their servers but YouTube itself is just very unstable. There is an issue every hour.

i don't think that's the issue since edge has no problem

Try in incognito mode to see if it's still a problem, also try with only 1 tab, having 20 tabs open can be a problem.

every browser will experience slow downs on YouTube when there is a heavy load.

Chrome, Safari, Edge, you name it.

Try resetting Chrome's settings (it's under advanced settings).

it isn't the load, since edge didn't struggle, i tried them a minute after each other and at the same time...

nothing...

i searched around some more and i noticed that chrome uses vp9 for youtube while edge uses mp4 (h264), looked up what vp9 is, bufferless streaming, that may be the problem

ah yeah ... you can switch it with the extention "Magic actions", look for the setting "Use mp4 stream when available" (or something like that).

tried it (and another one) it did manage to force it to use h264 instead of vp9, this didn't solve the buffering issue though...

You probably have an ad blocker, right? try and disable it and see if that works (or just make sure all extensions are disabled in incognito and try that again).

If all that isn't working then I'm really out of ideas.

sorry I couldn't help, all the above suggestions are solutions that normally work. I would have to do some research to see if there's other solution I'm not aware of! :(
