thats the plan, hes building it over a month and if he has some extra cash hell get the 470. as it stands 1050 ti is the ok choice.

yes, 1050ti is an excellent GPU if you want to go low power small form factor build.

Either do as @nerdslayer1 said and go with an rx 470/570, or get a 240+ GB SSD. 120 GB will fill up pretty quick if he loads a few games onto it.

My advice to your friend is skip out on the gpu, get an i5-7500, drop the ssd for the time being as well and you should run similar cost. Then whenever he has cash get a 470 or something and after that a boot ssd.

EDIT: something like this...couldn't find that 30 buck semi mod psu tho https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kjftd6

it might be worth going used for this budget build. On ebay you can usually find a hp z220 or something with a 3770 for around than $150-200 and sometimes one that'll include win10pro if you look up i7 workstation. if thats too much then search i5 workstation and see what you get (probably some dell optiplexs). Replace PSU and case if needed (find some old cheap one, if you can for free from some local business or off craigslist or something.) and add your gpu. sure, this method takes a lot more work, time and effort but if done right, you can potentially get a system much better than what you would get new.

forgot about the 500gb drive

try this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2Bff4C

ryzen 1400, b350 mobo, 1050ti

use the spring15 promo on the gpu and case to save a few bucks to get it really really close to the 450 mark.

This is the best build I could come up with that beats $450:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Yf7BHN

I tried to slip an rx series GPU in there, but even when cheaping out on the ram I could not get both a 240+ GB SSD and better GPU for under $464. Honestly I like @MeDownYou's list more than what I built even though his build doesn't have an SSD. Ryzen is a better platform right now than intel and the you can very easily toss an SSD into the computer later. The 1400 will run laps around the G4560 and the AM4 platform will be around for a while. I just didn't think it was possible to get on the Ryzen platform for $450 when I made my list, so I didn't consider it.

I highly recommend going for a 2x4 GB RAM setup over a 1x8 GB setup unless you know for sure your friend will be adding a lot more RAM later. Your friend can always add another 2x4 GB kit later for 16 GB, but 8 GB should be plenty and RAM runs faster with 2 sticks rather than one. Think of it like 2 hard drives run in RAID 0. That's what the second stick of RAM in the same channel is like along side the first stick. I'm no expert, so you might want to read up about it yourself. You should use the RAM and PSU from my list with all the other components from @MeDownYou's PCPartPicker list.
