It's only there if the cooler requires a backplate. If this is dual socket 2011 or dual socket 2011 v3 most if not all cooler don't need a backplate in which case it won't be an issue at all.

Not a significant amount of heat occurs on the back of the motherboard. If you peg the CPU(s) under 100% load and put a fan on the back of the socket you might shave 3~5°C off it. Not anything that means the life or death of the chip so long as the cooler on top of the chip is adequate.
