I think he's referring to it being a tad bit too expensive for this build.

Yes, in Canada it costs like $300.

Would I be better off with an air or water cooler?

It's a matter of preference. Air is great, and just fine. Water is also great. I personally will be getting a 1700 and trying to overclock as far as I can, and will be using water.

X370 would probably be ideal honestly, I've heard of them doing better when it comes to OCing RAM.

Paul from Paul's Hardware proved that B350 can overclock just as far as X370. The main benifit of X370 is SLI support.

crosshair vi and g.skill 3200 flare x and be good to go... also the 3200 flare x is actually tweaked to run at 3466 from factory with 16cl timings.. just bump up you frequency bus on cpu too 118 from 100 ... do this and be done with it... do not buy Hynix ram period....!!!

The Crosshair definitely has. My K7 and the RAM kit I bought from copy-pasting the part number from the QVL into amazon... My RAM is stuck at 2400 but it's a 3200 kit. Next BIOS update "should add 20+ RAM kits to the list". Per GIGABYTE admin on their website and their Twitter USA page in a DM. So patience for me.

yeah I'm still pretty salty about buying QVL approved RAM and it not working...

what ram do you have.? you will need to oc your cpu bus frequency to hit higher clocks since this changes the ram ratio to be able to go over the 2400 or 2666mhz clocks..!!!

some x370 boards, like the gaming k7 but NOT the gaming 5, also support up to 3600MHz memory but I believe THAT is what the first quoted reply was referring too. No one else I've seen NEEDED to adjust Baseclocks to get 2933 or even sometimes 3200MHz. After talking with Gigabyte, I learned it's primarily an issue with some DDR4 SPD controllers being more finicky than others with the new architecture. BIOS updates, however infrequent, should sort it out.

Don't recall but did he put ram to its limits as well? I'm more referring to ram than CPU.

It's not horrible, though it's more of an SSD that mainly makes sense if it's the absolute cheapest (still better than SSD Plus though :P.

Considering the Ultra II and MX300 are only a little more though I'd get one of those instead.

I like this, but I'm going for a mobo that can support up to DDR4-3000. I went with the Asus - PRIME B350M-A Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard The names are mostly the same which leads me to think the boards are similar.

240gb 850 evo (samsung) + 1tb hdd blue

the 850 evo is much more reliable for data storage

go for a evga g2 550w. it's not a exploding piece of crap :)

Since you posted this I've been pointed towards:

The Crucial - MX300 525GB 2.5" Solid State Drive do you know if this is as reliable as an 850 evo?

The SeaSonic - 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply same question.

It's okay if you don't know off the top of your head, you just seem to have a good idea about these things.

The Crucial SSD is a tiny bit less reliable than the Samsung, but much more worth it. It's like getting a used working CPU over getting a new one

That PSU should work, and it's good quality. Just recommend going the full length for getting one of the most reliable power supplies (and that gold efficiency)

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

I just wanted too add since I only use Samsung evo drives.  the magician software allows for ( op ) over provisioning. this is for longer lasting and faster writes to the drive. I am not sure if other ssd's automatically partition a unallocated space to write. you may need to make one.. maybe someone else could confirm that..
