1070 vs 1080ti

Go to solution Solved by wzrd,

I have 1070s, 1080s and a 1080 Ti, and play on a 75Hz 1440p ultrawide. From my experience, a 1070 won't quite cut it, even with a substantial overclock. However, if you're willing to compromise slightly on settings (say high/very high as opposed to ultra), you'll find you can play just fine. However, I imagine with the next generation of games this could well cease to be the case.

A 1080 will give you in and around the 60fps average mark in most, if not all current games, even at ultra settings. Occasionally you'll dip into the 20s and 30s minimums, but stuttering isn't bad. At this resolution you'd be best going for either liquid cooling or a good air cooled card over a founders edition to get a good overclock out of it.

However, if you have the money to spare, I would highly recommend the 1080 Ti. You will easily max out your monitor's frame rate consistently at max settings without breaking a sweat, across any games I've used, and will probably continue to do so.

TLDR; all will work, 1080 Ti is definitely worth it if you can afford it.

What refresh rate is your monitor? If it's 60hz then 1070 but if it's 120hz or 144hz 1080 ti.

:o.

Why not 1080 then? :P

I think 1080 ti would be a bit overkill but 1070 might not reach 60 fps.

If that is the case, agree on the 1080. Since 1080ti has came out, then prices for 1080 has dropped. So should be good for your case (AAA @ ultra @ 1440p)

If you can afford it stick with the 1080ti It might seem overkill right now but it will probably start being flexed more at that resolution once newer games hit.

In a way it's true. But then again, when newer AAA games comes out, there will also be newer GPU. My theory is to buy a 1080 now and then upgrade it again in like 2 or 3 years later when the card can no longer serve OP well in terms of games. But if the price different is not that great between 1080 ti and 1080 then maybe getting 1080 ti would be better I guess.
