Hi guys.

Bought a 7700K on a MSI Z270 Tomahawk motherboard.

Running at 5GHz stable, but would like the cpu to "step down" when im just doing easy work.

I could get this to work with my 4670K on a Asus mb, but I have no idea how to do it with MSI.

If anyone could lead me in the right direction, I would appreciate it :)

5Ghz is the MAX your processor speed can go before it hits 100%. When its not processing anything it just sits at 0% usage. If you bring up task manager you can see how much of your processor is in use.

Just now, Electronics Wizardy said:

no reason to disable speedstep, it just uses less power and makes you computer last longer. Won't make it any faster.

They mean is there a way to turn down there overclock from 5Ghz when running less intensive programs, but you have to restart your computer if you change it in a GUI UEFI or go into the BIOS.

Your PC won't be running at 5 GHz at all the time. It'll ramp up when there is demand.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

Speedstep is on. But still, my cpu sits at 5GHz at all times.
Its not stepping down... Thats my issue.
I would like it to step down...

Windows 10, in power options my settings are :
Highest cpu-freq 5000mhz

Lowest state 5%

Active policy

Highest state 100%

Speedstep is enabled in BIOS, so is c1e support.

"Highest processor frequency", is that a new option in windows 10? Havent seen this one before.
If I adjust it, to, lets say 4500mhz, my cpu does adjust itself to that frequency.

If i set it to 5000, it gives me 5000. But it will still not go down at idle..

What are you using to monitor the frequency?

Not task manager I hope...
