Best Z270 Motherboard for ≤$200

I feel like upgrading from my ASUS Z-170-AR to something a bit... fancier. I feel like using The ASUS ROG STRIX Z270F GAMING motherboard, but please let me know if there are any better options to choose from. RGB would be preferable on the board, and basically anything better than my current board. If good enough, A fancy Z170 board will do. Thanks! :)

I don't really like the barebones look of the board. I am also looking for more features.

Id rather spend that money on doing a Water loop or something if you want it to look better in that case, than after all that buy the next gen MB when that comes out.

Not when Gigabyte offers more RGB lightning over others...

I have the normal 5 model.

What is the difference between the K7 and K5?

Less features, fewer Ethernet ports, no VRM heatpipe, debug LED, less RGB lightning zone.

Just get X99 at that point...usually a PLX chip or better VRM phase with a waterblock.

I'd recommend the AsRock Z270 Taichi.  Has 10 SATA ports, 3 USB 2.0 headers, 2 USB 3.0 headers, 2 M.2 slots - yeah....pretty much all you'd ever need in a nice black & white aesthetic that looks dang cool.

i asked so i can give a better advice :P what kind of features are you looking for? asus is generally my go to brand for motherboards but maybe i'm biassed. their aura sync also works better cross components sync than others generally do, just make sure your cooler/aio doesn't have leds because that will completely ruin the consistency imo. do you also plan on swapping out ram or not? because you might want to take that in consideration if you want rgb, the asus platform has the gskill modules linus reviewed which i like better than the corsair modules which sync with gigabytes platform. gigabyte supports 13 non gpu/mobo rgb components. asus supports 21 non gpu/mobo rgb components (only counted brand of rgb strips not every individual rgb strip variation because thats useless). check which one has the support you like if you want a coherent rgb system. asus their rgb software is kinda lackluster but it does the job, it just isn't as user friendly and polished. gigabyte does have a pretty good program i think.

Nothing wrong with the Strix line of motherboards, they were called Asus Pro Gaming in the Z170 generation and I found my Z170 Pro Gaming board to be very solid and much cheaper than the ROG. Only reason to step up from Strix to a full ROG board is the extra USB ports on them if you need them like I do.

thanks, but I'm looking into a blacker/more minimalistic color scheme (besides the RGB)

No problem.  If that is your color scheme choice, then I'd recommend the ASUS Z270E Strix board.  I almost went for that one myself.
