Does anyone know about this router that claims it can make you anonymous on the interwebs using tor or vpn? Anonabox

or you could just run tails/tor on your computer...

This won't really help you too much.

TOR is very slow, like you takes anouther second for every site slow.

Almost every higherend and buiness grade router has a vpn client and server build in.

It's possible, but looking at the specs of these boxes, they don't seem to have hardware encryption, which for secure tunneling, is important. If the encryption is left to the CPU, performance will be VERY slow. People are saying that these are just generic boards with a modded install of openwrt.

You could get the pfsense SG-1000, and turn it into an openvpn router, but I can't confirm that you would get the results you want.

Along your line of thinking, I called a number I found online and asked why would I pay for somthing that i can get for free. He told me that VPN/Tor run on a pc only protects the browser but when placed in-line with your router it works as a filter to protect all info coming and going. Does this make logical sense?

Looks like it uses TOR. I thought the NSA and FBI and CIA and many other 3 letters of the alphabet already cracked TOR?

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Sort of. I think there are ways to route all your traffic through Tor, but generally it is limited to web browsing.

OpenVPN routes everything though.

You could also setup tor as a vpn on your computer, and not mess with the whole network with some programs or tails.

Using that box will make anything that cares about latency suck. So no gaming, video chatting will be laggy, web pages will be slower, downloads will be slow.

What are you trying to protect yourself against?

yep they have, but its still much better than not using it.

If your trying to stay private, the used laptop payed for in cash using a public wifi hotspot, is pretty hard to beat.

Not sure yet. I seen a add from this company and just said to my self, I am not really doing anything to protect myself. I started looking at VPN and found that most log your info and tor does not protect who computer.

all this does is hide you ip.

Id just get a normal vpn over this for amlsot all uses.

since you don't have anything big you have to hide, stick with a normal vpn.

I just read that lol. The sad news is that the Anonabox was attacked by a group called Hacking Team. Its on Wikileaks https://wikileaks.org/hackingteam/emails/emailid/64365. When you look up they guys that did this you will find that they worked for many 3 letter government bodies https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacking_Team.
